Which way does my pilot bearing go?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ford 223 gurl, May 29, 2010.

  1. So I am switching from a bushing to a bearing, but I am not sure which way it goes in.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks. :D

If it has seals on both sides it doesn't matter. If there is only one seal put it to the outside.

When you drive it in use something like a socket and drive against the outer part (or race) of the bearing as not to damage the bearings by driving against the inner race.

And referring to 8fleet9's post below. Yes one or both sides of the inner race may have a slight chamfer or taper/bevel on the lip to help guide the input shaft into place.

one side should have a rounded shoulder, that side should accept the input shaft of the transmission. it may have a shoulder on both sides in that case it don't matter.

  4. One side is flat and the other has a cap over the bearings, but you can see the shape of them (if that makes sense). So I assume that means it's "sealed", right? And if I understand what was said above it will not matter?

GURL...look's like it can go either way, but be sure to tap in with a socket that fit's the OUTER ring. if you touch the bearings at all, it will ruin it. GOOD LUCK little sister hambone...POP.
