I'm lookin' for some info about 12volt wiper motors. What brand and where from? For a 34 Ford coupe with single wiper. I'd like to have the switch on the back of the motor like the Speedway cheap one. But, if the quality of that type is no good I'll just deal mountin' the switch somewhere else. Thanks up front,Smokey
I'm using a Mighty wiper .( has only 1amp fuse)It goes behind the header and you can mount the toogle switch any where. The spring that comes with it is over kill and stops the wiper from working in light rain. I had few 33 and 34s and the bottom line is original vacuum wiper motor. the 12volt ones from Speedway are some what ok there all made in China. Remember you have to cut big hole in the header and the wiper motor sticks out about 1 1/2 inches.
I'm using Mighty Wipe also when I have to. I usually rely on rainex, only used wiper once in rain at night.
I'd recommend the Mighty-Wiper too. Any of the cheap ones wont last and as stated you'll have to cut the header panel to fit them. The Mighty-Wiper is made in the USA in Washington State and they are great people to deal with.
Thanks guys, I'm goin' to rely on Rain-X also. I don't want a wiper but, the DMV says that I have to have one. With that bein' said. I'm also havin' a hard time talkin' myself into a cheapy wiper motor. Smokey
On Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup, I used a rear wiper motor from a Mitsubishi hatchback. Many of the Asian cars (and some American cars like Jeep Cherokees and Eagle Talons) use the same basic one. You want one where the wiper arm mounts directly to the shaft for back and forth motion (some of them have a bellcrank that goes in circular motion with an eccentric rod to the wiper). The motor is about the size of a pack of 100's cigarettes and mounts at a right angle to the shaft so you can easily fit it up behinid your header panel without modifying the header panel. I used a push-pull type switch mounted in the hole on the header panel where the original vacuum wiper knob used to be. Even substitued the knob off the old Ford vacuum wiper motor on the switch.
