Hey guys, I'm currently in the process of gathering bits to start putting together a 34 ford coupe here in Australia and I'm wanting to run a dropped axle with split bones. Any advice on which year model of wishbones to use. The car will be channeled and I don't want the bones so long that I have to bolt them through the body if possible. Any ideas?

Cheapest ones you can find gonna have to "PIE CUT" any you buy anyway

  3. You won't necessarily need to pie cut them.. i didn't have to on my A roadster. I run '36 wishbones on mine, with a dropped A axle.

You can use anything from Model A through to '48. I prefer any of the V8 ones though as they are beefier than the early ones.

You are going to cut the yoke off the back and weld in bungs. So whatever you use you just cut them to the length that works for you. Choose what you like.

  5. Only other bit of advice i can think of, is that if you are running an axle with a 2" perch boss then a '32 - '36 wishbone will go straight on. If you are running a dropped Model A axle, or a '37 - '48 axle which are 2 1/4" then the '37 onwards bones will go straight on, otherwise you can grind, file, machine out 1/4" from a '32 - '36 bone and it'll fit, which is what i did to fit '36 bones to my Model A axle.

Cheers for the info and advice guys. I'll hopefully be running a superbell 4 inch dropped axle. Originally planned to run hairpins but the look of split bones is more appealing. I'm guessing that the v8 model bones would be better for drilling as well?

  7. Depending upon which state you live drilling the bones WILL have to be certified. Also with a 4" axle you will need to run bolt on arms, or have your originals heated and bent down to clear a wishbone. Just get it mocked up and you'll find how it all fits together.

Or you can run a 37 and up bone with a 1/4 spacer. I myself like the 36 bones.

Okay so I've finally got my shit together. I'm gonna save the A model bones for a four banger t project or something along those lines. Manages to get a hold of a complete 37 front end that have already had the wishbones split. Now just trying to decide whether to runs the spring in the original spot, on top or in front like the rolling bones cars.
