  1. Sweet!!
That's the good thing about running a sbc, you can get everything out of the box ;)

Good looking project you have there, but ditch the flex fan and get a factory style fan, it'll look much more at home with the car and the engine.

Yeah I would agree about the sbc stuff if I hadnt had to alter everything that I have put on so far. Im going with the flex for now...not everything Im going with is traditional and it was the size I needed...better than an electric fan at least

you won't like that flex fan...there are very loud...you need a factory fan or go with the electric deal....my 2 cents..rooster

VAPHEAD I havent done the set screws yet. Waiting until I finish my 3 deuce setup. I did get the insides painted black though and it looks good. The flex fan is going and a factory style fan is on its way for all you fan guys....
Pops came over and we got alot of stuff done today
#1 got the vega steering off and the mounting plate (wrong location) cut off and all cleaned up.
#2 got the block painted black finally (taping off takes FOREVER)
#3 got the 3rd carb's jets (rusted solid and stripped from previous owner) removed via easy out and new jets replaced! 2 jets were the biggest pain in the ass ever but I WON!
#4 got the 3rd carb partially rebuilt and got it painted
#5 got the motor on the cherry picker and lowered into the car to see where I needed to cut the firewall
#6 got measurements for motor and fan done.
#7 got the firewall cut so the motor would sit right.
#8 ran out of daylight.....had a home improvement fix that I did today as well that burned alot of daylight but made the wife happy.

Thanks for all of the comments its a good feeling to know that taking all these pics is worth it!
Skirv-I havent got the steering box mounted back on I cut the mount off because it was mounted WAY too high for the motormounts. I had to get the firewall cut to see an estimate of where the motor is going to sit...it was deff. inspiring seeing the motor roughly in there. Theres ALOT of little things that Im messing with right now behind the scenes! Been kinda busy lately and havent had as much time to work on it this week. Hope to get some good work in this weekend.
Smith32 its actually a 355 ci that Im working on...I was looking for a 327 but couldnt turn this one down. It should be fairly mean

How loud would the flex fan really be? That bad over baffled lake style headers???? Just out of curiosity???? Lets get some input!

  21. I don't know man, the're pretty loud.

    Electric fans DO work great.
I just hate lookin' at 'em, thats all...I don't see the one in my truck, its enclosed.
Anyways, I can't imagine the noise from a flex fan driving anyone nuts...if THAT drives you nuts, I mean.....damn...;) Good luck with dealing with the rest of the experience of a fenderless, open engine, open exhaust, piece of Henry's early steel...

well i think they are loud...and if your gonna run baffeled laker headers you might not like that after you run it either...you might choke and go DEAF at the same time...i do open my headers from time to time...loud and the exhaust fumes get to ya after a while...i woild say that build it the way you want...you always can make changes, thats whats so cool about hot rodding.....changes you never get board..lol

  24. The build is looking good man! I have an electric fan, I hate it until I get stuck in traffic in the summer. If I could figure out something that would fit and not hit the radiator hose, I would change it. But for now, I never worry about over heating.

yeah i see what your saying...i only run the electric fan because thats what fits in my car...the engine in mounted low in the frame for no tranny tunnel...i could run a 6 cyl pump with the adapter but they do not cool as good ,,,so what i have works great for me and i put over 25k on a year:D...as for the fenderless and the exhaust...i love it and i run mellow tone exps muffers...way cool !!! they sound sweet !!!...rooster

Also true...my baffled headers ( and they were LONG tube...) were GREAT, when you fired it up...pretty cool on the 30 minute trip to Atco...slightly irritating on the way to the shore...annoying enough to buy ear plugs on the way to NYC, or the Jalopy Showdown!
The fumes, also definately sucked...the fan? Well, its audible, but, hell so was the whole rest of the cars noises... I guess it depends on how quiet the rest of your car actually is...

Thanks for the input...like I said before the fan is the "last" of my worries in the whole scheme of things...so well see. I understand the convience behind electric fans but I always laugh when guys talk about my car with disc's brakes and so on to listen to them talk 100% traditional with an electric fan.....never made much sense to me. I have no problem with electric fans at all...a hot rod to me is what YOU make it not what everyone else thinks it should be

If your SB is not to wild it should stay cool with no problems with a traditional fan and shroud. You can add an electric pusher later if needed. This was the set up I ran on my 29 roadster PU. It also had lake headers with baffles. Sounded sweet, dont recall fan sound being an issue.

Has not been too much going on lately. Been really busy and havent had a ton of time for the car. Worked on my last carb of 3 tonight (obviously dont have to work tommorow)...Kitchen table with spike tv's top 8 spike girls in the background. Not too bad at all...this last carb is giving me issues...its like the inner spring is binding up and wont really open up..hum
