The mounts and shocks shipped today bud. PJ was out (briefly) on the chrome shocks. It's coming together nicely.Keep it up.
did you get the frame measured up? just curious to see whats goin on there? whats the origins of the frame?
Went down the metal shop and got alot of the metal for fixing he channel and building the floors and some supports! So sounds like thats my next job......... Would my wheelbase be any different if I have the spring behind setup??? What should my wheelbase be?????? I might be doing some frame "fixing" as well if its too long
do you have spring behind? i think that makes a wheelbase about 6in shorter, using the same frame for both setups
Ahhh...just looked at the early pics again... THATS what happened to your wheelbase...the spring behind setup, on the tubing out front. Your "horns" are gone...
I deleted the above, too, because I looked at the pics again and saw his frontend... He has coil-overs out back, doesn't he? Damn...I need a photographic memory.
Yeah, I guess it depends on where the frame builder located the crossmember, too...mighta' picked up a couple inches there, too.
ya cool, just dont want to end up with too much trans showin or too much room in front between the motor and radiator, ya know?
Yeah Im working on it....Well see how it all pans out. Might take the body off and do some shortening if I have to. The engine area looked pretty good but the body was way too far forward "back wheelwheels looked way off" so we had to move the body back. Might have to do some frame mods!
Got some good work done on the coupe today...got the some strengthening done on the decklid too and while I was working the ups man showed up. Sweet! See if anyone can find the significance of the work bench picture????? Got my weld on front shock/headlight mounts "pete & jakes" and some chrome pete and jake front shocks! That should finish up the front suspension! Fire station tommorow and then saturday try to get some thrashing done! Still trying to find out how much a spring behind system adds to my wheelbase!!!
I have a buddy that has a sbc and trans for mock up thanks for the offer though!!! When are the savages having something???? Anyone going up to southern fried in atl sept 6th???
That frame is definitely way long. Gotta shorten it man! Shorter makes it look meaner. Meaner is awesome.
we dont have much official stuff goin on, everyones just dealin with the economy rite now. we make some of the cruises on saturdays if you wanna come up and meet some people. lemme know if ya need anything, ive got some pretty good parts connections up here
I agree with Mark.. EDIT: Just looked at the front end set up again... Ya the frame is waaaay long.. Basically you want everthing as close a possible from front to back.. Love the wheels.. evel
The rear suspension is mounted way back!!! I got to measuring last night and its like 116 inch wheel base YUCK! The thing is like i said the rearend is mounted way too far back. I dont think the frame is too long I just think that the "previous owner" mounted the rearend setup too far back. The frame can come back like 12 inches in the trunk if need be so thats no problem. My only question would be what should I kick it down to? 106 inch wheelbase and if so whats a good measurment to have firewall to radiator? I dont want to go too much but then again i dont want it to look like a ol rail dragster either! You guys have been such a big help already!
What the length from crossmember to crossmember cause the frame is to long. I don't think you can hang the rearend out that long. The space between the firewall and grill should be around 30-32 inches.
Im at work today and all the measurements are at home? I dont understand the question about hanging the rear end out that long? The rear is hanging at the back of the Z I know that its off. I can move the rear foward to reduce the wheelbase to what I want...Pretty sure this will be the way to do it
ah, very cool, much easier than snippin the frame and patching it back. youll need about 32 inches from firewall to radiator for a sbc. move the body to that point and then you can see where the rear needs to be moved to.
I guess I'm not getting it, I built the ch***is first and then the rest and there isn't 12in of adjusting in my frame.
Yeah I would rather not cut the frame if I dont have to and it doesnt look like I will need to. Im off tommorow and will be in the garage all day to get it all figured out! It deff. looks tough as hell with the shorter wheelbase!
Well just got in from the garage!!! Over 8 hrs of work today in the garage non stop...no food or anything maybe a couple beers. Dad came over and lent me a hand, much appreciated! Got sooooooo much done today!!!! Starting with 1) upper headlight/shock mounts modified and welded on 2) made lower shock mounts from scratch (Also welded on) 3) got the frame all measured up (116 inch wheelbase YUCK) 4) created new rear crossmember/shock mount from scratch 5) got all coilover tabs welded up to new rear crossmember 6) cut rear hairpins and moved up and rewelded to frame 7) cut mount for panhard bar and moved it up to new location on frame 8) all rear suspension/rear cut and moved to new location and rewelded 9) new wheelbase=106 inched and looks bad***!!!!!! 10) got body moved up to new location!!!! Got so much stuff done today with help from my pops....long long long day but well worth it. Now I can start work on my floors etc. Body is sitting on piece of 2x4 so the body doesnt touch so these pics ARE NOT the ride height the car will be at....but overall when my wife and mom came outside she said wow is that the same car? Exactly what I wanted to hear!!!! Let me know what you think! This project is REALLY coming along! (Ribs and a special beans recipe waiting when I got out of the shower!)
