Changing wheelbase from 116 to 106! Lot of work but worth it!

Alot of work....but very very very worth it. The new look of the car is very inspirational for my build! Next its off to floors/fix channel and moving the radiator. What kind of clearance do I need with or without electric fan? 32" I have heard numerous times for sbc.....what are your guys clearances for the engine compartment with fan and with electric fan.....THANKS again for all the help guys!

  10. great job on your altered wheel base! Looks tops.

  11. I have about 1/2" to 3/4" clearance for my mechanical fan...

Does anyone know how much an electric fan takes off for clearance issues/fittament? I have seen some people put their fan grill shell side to push how difficult is that to mount? thanks

tried to get you a pic, but the motor is a clusterfuck of accessories and bs, so its kinda hard to see. this 1973 307 is 32in from trans mating surface to the tips of the fan. it has a long pump setup, and a 1.5in spacer on the fan to keep from tickin the pulleys and alt/powersteering junk. with a short pump setup and simple pulleys you could prolly cut 2 or 3in from the whole length. ill try and get a pic and measurements of my 58s motor setup, its prolly closer to what youll be running..... ill be back later

ok, heres the simple measurements. you can shave more than i thought! the 355 in the 58 is about 28.5 from the trans surface to the fan bolts. its a short pump, single groove pulley setup, and no spacer on the fan. whens the social d show, didnt hear about it? they not playin orlando?

wow it look so much better.it being too long was my frist thought of the car. alot of people would of left it alone because they are lazy so good job to you. I kept mine at 103 1/2 for the short look and im running the short pump with mechanical fan and have hot small block with no cooling issues took out on I95 90* day aok,so if your budget is tight use mechanical it also doesnt burn out and leave stranded and it will fit with your 106[IMG]

What a great looking coupe!!!! I think overall my 106 is going to make it easier to mount a small block so I just have to move up the radiator a bit to make it all fit. I would like to keep it mechanical if possible well have to see. Thanks skunx for the measurements! Alot of it seems to come down to a short pump and single groove belt. Once again thanks for all the help and info!!!

Still looking around at drivetrain stuff....need to think about fixin door fitament so I can get to some bodywork and get some flat black on the car (get all the panels to be one color of black) also get it ready to have some pinstriping done when the time comes!

Well just got in from the garage! Got some small stuff done tonight with the little time that I had. Got the front shocks all bolted up and the headlights all finished up. First pic is how the headlight turned out so I had to take it apart and modify them a little bit to get the light face straight on the weld on upper mounts but well worth it. Its all in the details people may not have noticed but I deff. would! Also got the steering column and wheel together for you to see. Saturday should be another big thrash day...try to get the body sitting right and much more:D

Hey White Devil, awsome job!! This is the first I read this thread and I like the fact that you didnt just take the EZ way out and leave the frame AS-IS, the stance is awesome and the wheelbase is perfect now! Keep it up! Model A's kick ass, I miss mine! PS, my son is a month old and I cant wait until he can help out, looks like your havin a blast together and your boy is gonna be proud to drive that Model A to high school....hahaha Later man, ~E
