How many have white interiors in their rides, and how hard is it to keep clean? I have 3 kids, and really want white interior in my 58 but am worried about how much work it will be to keep looking good. Any suggestions?
I saw a white bench seat in a car at a show and you could see where his belt or blue jeans rubbed the white seat back down low... it was blue... didn't look good. I'm scared of doing white, but probably gonna do it anyway and just throw a towel in there with me!!!
Ive worked on 1 before. The part that gets hard to clean is the actual threads, you need to get in there with a brush. But the threads will never stay the same white after a while. Smooth vinyl cleans easy. Textured requires scrubbing because it gets in all the grooves. Harsh cleaners will yellow it as well. Id stay away from it if its a DD, and you know how kids are....
I have a white bench seat in my truck and it is impossible to keep clean. Blue jeans definitely rub off. Maybe I should just start wearing khakis
I have a white interior in my car, dogs, kids, etc. It's super heavy duty marine vinyl so it just has to wiped down with soap and water from time to time. I always keep a sheet on my front seat and don't let people ride in the back very often.
I've been thinking the same recently, really want pearl white but scared of it getting dirty quick. The car will be white with gold highlights so may have consider alternatives. Maybe gold.
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are great. I also use them to clean the white (painted) roof on my Comet. The instructions say not to use them on paint but I havent had a problem and the roof is so bright its hard to look at in direct sunlight.
My Son Don has an all white interior in his T bucket and it stays pretty clean with Mother's Vinyl Cleaner, but it does show some rub marks from his belt buckle on the back of the seat that don't completely come off. My interior in my 27 is mostly off white with black rolls at the top, and it is VERY forgiving. I am not good about keeping my car spotless but when I spray on some of the Mother's it comes up like the day it was done. IMO the off white I have is easier to care for than the white-white Don has in his. Don
just got mine done by beachbum jim,its marine grade and he said to just wipe it down with 409,i love it! check him out on the hamb he does great work!
Have white seats in my old mans car he has owned it 41 years now raised two kids in it and still looks good. littel 409 once inawhile and some furniture polish. I love white seats want them in everything I own
My Merc will have an all white interior. Don't really care how much work it is to keep clean, cause I like the way a white interior looks on a Custom. It's worth the effort.
I've had white leather interiors and marine grade vinyl interiors. the Vinyl interiors are much easier to live with. Have the interior sewn so that as much of the thread as possible is hidden. The thread is the hardest part to clean. As for cleaning, simple green cleaner with a micro fiber cloth works great. my secret for tough stains is goop hand cleaner. The plain white stuff in the tub. Scrub it in the stain using your fingernails and wipe it off with a micro fiber cloth. It works awesome. Don't fear the white. In my opinion, nothing looks better in a custom. .
I wanna know how all you guys are gettuing a Rub mark from your Belt Buckle on the Back of the Seat ???
I had a black and white interior in my chopped '51 Caddy, I let a friends mother ride with me one HOT afternoon - she had on shorts with black stripes in them. They left a faint dye stain of the stripe pattern on the white part of my seat - never could get them out... I've still been contemplating using white in the '55 Caddy I'm working on now, but I keep remembering that episode - plus I've almost always got grease/dirt/whatever on my hands/clothes so that's another downside. I'd say if it's a completely finished car and you don't mind staying on top of cleaning it, go for it. Nothing looks better in a kustom than a fresh white tuck & roll interior.
Haha, yep, you are right. I should have said "belt", not belt BUCKLE. The leather of his belt rubs the upholstery. Don
I did a white interior in my 62 Impala. I'm a mechanic by trade, have a black German Shepherd that go's just about everywhere with me, including work, and drive the car a LOT. Indian blanket in the back for the dog, and a clean, cloth fender cover on my side of the front to keep the heavy dirt etc off. It's still a pain in the *** and MUST be cleaned weekly, but i wouldn't change it. The hour or so it takes to clean it is worth it. Tony
get white seatcovers. remove them before a show.no eating in car, make sure kids are clean befor jumping into car. just a few ideas.
