We had a pretty good turnout for a test & tune/warm-up date... with the weatherman calling for 65% chance of thunderstorms all day. :) We got about 4 hours of racing in before the rains came... and they came down hard. We had about 20-25 racers, and I lost track of the number of vintage vehicles.

I think our Sept. 14 race will have a lot of racers.

We had a lot of karts, but many of them seemed to have mechanical problems.

I didn't get too many pics... too busy having fun!

Fox Go Boy stretched 7" and metal flaked. Blew the hopped-up Briggs motor about 5 laps into it. Here's the team swapping in a spare engine I had in the car.

A lot of people grumbled about wearing jackets, helmets and gloves... but 2 minibikes wrecked and one almost hit a wall. This is one of the wrecks. Guy wiped out on a sharp turn. Both accidents resulted in s****es and blood, but it would have been a LOT worse without the protective gear. Both racers said they are coming back in September with thicker jackets

The black mini is all electric. On a slow day it hits 45mph in the straights. The rider has to lean over the handle bars when it starts or the bike will flip.

My kart (1960-61 Simplex Mark II Challenger with a West Bend 580 2-stroke) performed admirably. I got it ****oned up at about 10pm the night before the race. I definitely have a few bugs to work out, especially with the brakes and chain alignment... and I definitely want a 2nd engine. :) There was also a dual engined Mac kart there, but I didn't get a pic of it, and a couple a few Margays, at least one was a Panther X, and a modified vintage yard kart.

Oh yeah, the track had no problem with the noise that was coming out of my 580 or the WB 820 that was there, and we were by far the loudest things at the track. A 3-engined kart running onn alcohol was there the weekend before us and was allowed to run... so your noise concerns are invalid. :)

    Margay.

More of my crew... Grumpy Spider was drawn by one of my daughters (the one in the background)

That's my kart on the right and a recently CL purchased Margay on the left

Fox Go-Boy with a 4-stroke Briggs & Stratton vs. a 1960-61 Simplex Challenger Mark II (me) with a West Bend 580 2-stroke saw engine. Dig that buzz!

I have one in the garage I need to finish. A Briggs and Stratton mini. Need to put wheels and a motor on it. Trying to relive something I always wanted but couldn't get 45 yrs. ago. Maybe next summer.

Hell yeah it is! I'm not too good at identifying them, but it may be an early '60s Dart. Is it yours?

  16. No a friends he's building it trying to talk him into bringing it in sept!

  17. That's too funny! That's Mark Anderman in the red Jacket. I raced with him when Norway was dirt! Then for several years after they made a paved road course out of it.
Still wish I had My Bug. Great kart.

Cool. Mark brought out a dual-engined Mac kart. The Dart withe th 820 belongs to Darren, the guy standing behind it in the white t-shirt. He races vintage sports cars, too.
