I need a set of wheels/tires and wanted some input. I need a 16x8 whitewall cheater slick for the rear and a 16x? for the front. I see Coker carries the Firestone 16x8 cheater slick not sure if these are decent or not and I can't find anything else.

  2. Are you racin or stylin'? The stones are supposed to be good tires. They should suit you well unless its like a 10 second or or the like.

A bit of both I suppose they're going on a 53 Ford with a 427 so I would prefer if they did not fall apart under heavy acceleration but at the same time it is not a race car.

I called towel city doesn't offer 16" whitewall, it looks as though Firestone is the only option making the decision a little easier lol

If you're using the wheels you have on there now, get down on your back or belly and measure how much more tire width you can add toward the body work one way and the ch***is the other way. Then see if the cheaters size falls within the space you determine you have. If you're using different wheels, then the measuring and math are a little more involved but still easier than rocket science.
You may already know all about this. If so consider this post as general info for the unwashed m***es out there.

The measurements were already taken and there is clearance for 10" but you would literally have to take the rear end off of the links to remove the wheels so currently the rear end is on the links but the suspension is disconnected so the rear end is on the ground and the frame is on jack stands. The rear end is a narrowed 9" and 8" tires will fit fine it seems. The issue I came across talking to Coker was that 16x8 Firestone cheaters are fine but the front runners that match the Firestone cheaters which are the Firestone deluxe champions only come in 16x5 and the smoothie wheels only come in 16x6 and it sounds like sounds like Coker is not comfortable with mounting 16x5 on 16x6 wheels. I have 12" wilwood brakes on the front which necessitate 16" wheels or I could run a spacer up front and run 15" tires in the front. a bit confusing to say the least. . . .

Radir are nice but it seems the section width is too wide as the 16x9 is a 12.5" section.

    IF you want 16" X 4.5" (or 5") the '49 Ford p***enger car had 16" steel wheels...15" were an option in '49.
Not plentiful, but they do turn up from time to time. Pretty sure early Stude also had 16" wheels, '49-'52, also narrow, 4.5" or 5". Lug pattern also 5-on-4.5".

Very pretty coupe in avatar, BTW...
