Technical White Wall Tires on Rear Only? Poll

I have this model of a 32 Ford that I love. One of the things I love is the rear-only white walls. I am wondering if it would look good on my car (below), but you never know if things will look as good in real life. Also, searching online yields no actual examples of street rods with just the rears. What do you think?

(Very nicely done model! At first glance I thought it was a real car)

    Cool in my house...

  4. Whitewall tires on the front and blackwall slicks on the rear works. Otherwise all white or all black.

Remember a lot of cars like Rich B said. Got used to that look when I was a kid in the 60s, looks OK now, on the right car.

The silhouette is much more important than what the light reveals. The diameter of your tires on the model are relatively larger than on your life-sized hot rod. And I think they look better. Whether WW or BW.

    But to answer your question...

From what I understand, drag racers of yesteryear found that the white-walls had softer side walls so some considered them to be a better basis for retreaded racing slicks.

So I do kinda like it. On the rear. From a historical perspective and just because it looks funky.

As always, especially when it comes to the finer details, do what you like.

White Walls at one end would be hamb permissible for that period of time.

I posted this before I saw the Roth cars.
like I say it's permissible. but I prefer black OR white both ends. but I'm a hypocrite... because on my OT 4x4 I'm running the original 30 year old white letter spare on the front so I can try to wear out all four remaining tires at once.

It may have been something that was done but so were four headlights on 32 Ford grill shells, doesn’t mean it looks good.

I think it looks good on the right car.

If you're considering it on the red car pictured you'll need to narrow up those front tyres and paint the rims a contrasting colour/chrome for it to look right though imho

And then just one bald snow tire for the front and you'll be stylin'.

I don’t know that it would suit the colour/style/era of what you have.
You could always change the colour/style/era of what you have - to suit the rear only white walls……
kind of like your first picture……

Well I’m not a fan of whitewalls anyplace. Especially the real wide ones. I like clean blackwalls all around. Your mileage may vary!

I was surprised to see the poll results... white wall pie crusts are tits and half the time see them with blackwalls on the front in old pics.

To my eye, the rally wheels don’t support the whitewall look. Maybe just maybe if the wheels were black.

  29. I'd do it, I also do what I like on my stuff.

This is close to what the car had on it. Basically big and littles.
