OK, I got some money to buy my tires. I was looking at getting Cokers from Summit.
I'd like the "big and little" look.

I was looking at a 550-16 ( for 5" wide wheels) for the front and a 700-16 (for 6" wide wheels) on the rear.
The issue I'm having is the width of the white walls as listed.
    The 550s have a 2 1/4" wide whitewall and the 700s are 4" wide.
    That's almost double the width.
Seeing as both Summit and Coker use "representative" photos, I can't tell just how different they will look together.
Was it common to have a narrower stripe on the front?

Another issue between the Coker site and Summit's is Coker's recommendation for wheel width differs from Summit's.
    Summit says for the 550-16 min/max wheel width is 3 1/2 - 5"
    Cokers says 3 1/4 - 4" wide wheel.
    Who is right?
If Coker is right, I have to go to a 650 (3 3/4 wide white) for my 5" wide wheels on the front.
Seems awfully big to me for the front.
I'd also have to go with the 750 for my 6" wide rears which widens the white wall to 4 1/2".
Am I making a big deal over the whitewall width?
Will a 3/4" difference be noticeable? I realize the tire outside diameter (and thus the sidewall height) changes along with the width of the tire, so is that the difference?
Buying tires should not be this confusing...

I believe the white wall width is proportional to the tire height/size. Not my car,
    but cool!

  3. It has a lot to do with the height of the tire. HRP

2-1/4" in the front and 4" in the back sounds pretty close. When I was buying tires for my old Olds (235/60 in front and 255/70 in back) the salesman said to go with 2-1/2" WW in front and 3-1/2" WW in the back or I would regret it.
He was right, the smaller diameter front tire needs a proportionaly smaller width WW to be visually correct:

Thanks guys. I thought it might be something like that.
    I'll consider that issue sorted.
Now, what about the Coker vs Summit wheel width issue.
I'm leaning toward what Summit says.
Nice pickup and I love that Olds.

While we're talking here, what about tubes?
Gotta have 'em with the bias ply?

I talked to Zach at Coker tire yesterday and he said
the 550 was too narrow for the 5" wide wheels.
So, I ordered 600-16 for the front and 700-16 for the rear.
Tubes and tires should be here next week.

Are the white walls on both sides?
