yup, the Dream Rod was built in 1963, so it was done with narrow whites. The Miss elegance (blue) 55 was built in 61 so it was done with Wide whites. The Astorian was done in 1964 so it had narrow whites.... It has a lot to do with the era you want your car to look like it was built in
i’m going to put on a set of wide whites on my 41 cad 4d sedan someday. for a few years i had the 16” wheels/tires/caps from my 40 la salle on the cad. looked good! then i sold the la salle…
My personal feeling is wide whites look best on 'round' cars, say up to '54. From '55 on cars took on a more modern look as the vestigial rear fenders had pretty much disappeared along with the 'roundness' and they continued to get more 'swoopy' from that point on. There can be exceptions of course, but this is merely my opinion.
I think I haven't had a car without whitewalls for around 20 years (including early model daily drivers). They are very expensive here (try upwards of AUS$350 EACH), but there are some "imported from Asia" thin whitewalls available, which I run on daily drivers. I have seen some HORRIBLE wide whites on late model (post 2000) cars, along with venetian blinds & fender skirts. Just another reason to stay off the drugs!
They look ok on some cars. I've had a old hot rod since 1971 and never had white walls. And never will. Just don't want them on any of my cars.
I agree with a lot of youse guys that it depends on the car...some look good, some not so much. What I DON'T like about the tires available today is have varying white wall widths, according to overall tire size: bigs and littles look like ass with a 2 1/2" in front and a 4 1/2" in back! JMNO, YOMV!
Last time I had them was on a daily driver in the early 80's. The wife would use them for curb feelers. One hard bump when parking then back it off a notch; just right.
My goal is to have black wall tires and then a set of wide white walls for my car (depending on the mood I’m in.)
Wide White wall tires for the summer. . and then maybe black ice and snow tires for the winter if absolutely needed. it’s probably better to let the seasons determine my mood.
There were different brands some better some worse. If you had the cash, you got the ones made by Goodyear I believe.. If anybody remembers the names please post them.

The widths of the wall varied in the periods but they really never did leave the movement...the molds just got sold off after and production for period builds continued... @tdog I'm sure will have both and will wear a smile you couldn't pry down no matter what config he decides to run 'The Omaha Coupe' in...it wouldn't be period correct any other way...
