I’m looking for info on this 27 T roadster. More pics would be amazing or an owner or really any history on the car. I’ve seen this picture floating around the web for years but never any info on the car. I know the basics. 32 shell custom solid hood model a frame drop front axle spring atop rear looks like a Flathead v8 with the exhaust pipe coming out the driver side under the car…I appreciate the help guys.
I know that it’s pretty much the exact color I’m putting on my lakes tudor. Sure would love to hear more about it than just the pic I too have seen a lot of for awhile now.
I've thought the same thing every time it pops up. Hope someone can shed more light on it... it's pretty perfect in my eyes. Glen.
I bet that its a post WW2 picture (46-48 ford in pic) so maybe the tire situation was much better then
Historical fact; all whitewalls were 2 sided until at least the 40s/wartime. Look at any factory pic from the era, always double whites. Just some useless trivia.
32 Lincoln KB, a few pace cars, a 38 Packard, all era pics, not new, all double whites. More useless trivia? Raw rubber is white, we make it black.
I see a light bar on the front and a rag to keep the hood from rattling. poor guy in the back looks to have sciolous. gotta love a no-frills race car that probly was a street car also.
Those particular front tires do look like the Firestone motorcycle tires still in production. While we haven’t used any white walls we have put them on a few cars and the distinctive tread pattern/ placement is pretty easy to spot
Great Tim, those photos are from WoodieMike here on the H.A.M.B.( Lakes Photos P.R.C.) That's such a good thread. I don't think anyone ever connected the car Dylan posted to these. Also Don Montgomery used to work at a service station with Sammy in Pasadena when they were young. Sammy went on to race Arduns.....
I love this car too, I also had this picture saved but didn't know whose car it was. I like that the car uses a '32 grille that isn't cut down into a square, and the proportions of the car are excellent.
@Nobey Dylan posted them on Instagram with a little info. Figured He’d eventually make it back over here with the info but I couldn’t help but share the photos. Always loved that roadster
Any pics of Sam the man himself? Yeah the car is a text book example of how a traditional hot rod should be. You couldn’t go wrong copying it for your next build everyone. Though body may be a little confining most modern physique.
I thank you for posting those Tim, I was just waiting for the OP to come back. Anyway you did good for everyone else.
Navy Flight Deck Jackets were the thing before leather jackets, available for cheap. 3 of them on this pict.
View attachment 5555972 Sorry for the hiatus everyone, I did track down some very good info on the car @Nobey got it right this is Sam Broiler’s T roadster that was his street and lakes car. He was indeed in the P.R.C. (Pasadena Roadster Club) from at least 1947-1949 and from what I’ve read was in their famous Reliabilty run in 1949 with this car although I could not find his car in the one picture I found of the first one. The tires are 500-16 Firestone Motorcycle tires (notice the rounded shape for leaning the bikes) and rears were 750-16 truck tires (winter tires, aggressive tread) he ran a “Big Merc” v8 and ran 111.66 MPH on the lake bed in 1947. From what I can see the Flathead ran all Offenhauser speed equipment. He ran 41-48 chevy tail lights and I believe the headlight bar/stands were made out of 35? Ford fender supports that were re-arched with a 28-31 spreader bar for the headlight bar. From my understanding his number 176C is primarily based on the years so if you notice he also ran 195C and in the 195C picture he also switch to black wall tires but same hood strap and headlight bar. I’m definitely obsessed with Sam’s T and will definitely be building my 27 as a tribute car to his. I just need some interior shots on the car to complete the collection! This is the start to my tribute to Sam’s car
