Best as in reliable or as in Gnar gnar flames? too many legal regulations will blow the coolness factor, Iv heard of people having a spark plug and gas line to the exhaust but shit thats too close of a call IMO

All you need is a coil and a spark plug plus a manual choke...

Hotlistsexhaust.com Seems to really hype thier stuff, but I have no idea on this topic. It is something I would like to know as well.

    Also why are they bad?

    Sorry to HIjack...

Well if you are going for truly monumental flames, get 2 propane tanks and mount them in your trunk, lead a tube out through the bottom of the trunk and then put a high pressure nozzle. At the end put an igniter of some kind. Open the nozzle and hit it. If done right, this will produce flames that are easily 20-30 ft. long. Absolutely show stopping, but really dangerous on the streets and not very traditional for some reason. I think they are cool, not all will.

You have to richen your fuel mixture and conventional wisdom is you wash the oil off the cylinder walls in the process and contaminate the oil in the pan and really they just kinda suck unless you have a completely illegal flamethrower type thing in your trunk in which case they're bad ass but you mightt be a domestic terrorist or something if you use them in public LOL

Thanks for the info. I would love to see pictures of set ups.

  11. Buy a kit from Autoloc and a small NOS kit, get an adaptor for the propane to NOS side line and hook the fuel up like normal and use a Fogger injector, this will provide optimum flames and possible jail time...........:D

you need to get one of those WWII flame throwers my pop used to blast the Japanese out of the bushes. those suckers would shoot a wall of flame 30 - 40 feet.

  14. We used to use model T coils and a toggle switch, a threaded bung and a spark plug.

But that was a very long time ago.

Its just that they are kind of cliche, like skulls and spiderwebs and red wheels.

There was a Caddy in Salina last weekend throwing some good flames. I like them! Wished I could help more.

...Wouldn't mind seeing flames behind one of my 59s but only on such a rare occasion its not worth the effort.

I built this kit. Put the sparkplugs in my dumps coming out behind the front tire. I used coil packs from a new ford truck. You need to cut power to the distributor and stall the motor for a second with the choke partially closed it takes some time to get the rythem right with out killin the motor.

Yes it washes out the the rings. Change the oil every 1k miles or sooner.

Mine is a worn out no power piece of 6 cyl shit so I don't care.

Flame throwers were big in the 40's 50's and many into the 60's. way back when its was a style. Read Andy Granatelli's book-They call me Mr. 500. They had flame throwers on there ride back then. I have a set on my truck like the above quote. I installed 2 T coils mounted in the rear frame and ran trigger wire from dash button to the coils and coil to spark plug's in the tail pipes. while driving-cut off the ign key-floorboard it and hit the button--Flames

    Cheap, easy flame thrower:

Get yourself an old HEI dist. (one with the coil on top)
You will need an old heater blower motor
    some rubber hose.
Toggle switch (2) one of them should be a momentary one.
    couple of plug wires
    couple of spark plugs

Take the dist and use a piece of hose to mount it to the shaft of the heater motor. You will also need to find a way to hold dist. and heater motor. I used a 1 x6 and some wood stands then placed it in an old tool box in trunk.

On the cap remove all but two terminals, generally the opposite two stay ( you can leave more if you want to add more plugs)

Mount spark plugs in tail pipes about 8-10" from the end.

    Run plug wires to plugs

Take the switches and mount them somewhere convenient. 1st switch we are going to use to send power back to blowermotor and dist. (you did ground both?) This will turn on the blower motor, spin the dist. shaft and make a constant spark at the plugs in the tailpipe.

Second switch (momentary) will go to coil, use this to cut power to the coil while engine is running.

Now start engine, Turn on 1st switch (dist/blower). Rev engine up to 3000-4000 rpms, now as you flip the momentary switch and engine starts to die, pump the hell out of the gas pedal. return the momentary switch to run position and boom flames out the tail pipes.

    Enough help?

  25. The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
