This morning I reached into my collection of pocket-size custom magazines and pulled out the April 1958 issue of Rodding and Re-styling. The cover car was a nice 1955 or 56 Ford Victoria called The Lady Lee. The car was owned by Jimmie Kenney of Connecticut and named after his wife, Lee. The design is clean and sharp. The '56 Buick side trim really works with the rear roofline and extended rear fenders. According to the article, the car won the 1957 Lancaster (PA?) Cam Jammer's Autorama, Most Outstanding Custom award. Kenney followed that up with a first at the Hartford Autorama. Without any other introduction, the article says that "Herb" worked on the car for nine months and painted it. Could this be Sea Cliff, NY customizer, Herb Gary? I've never seen this car associated with him, but it looks like his work. Anyone know?
I found a bit more information: The June 1958 issue of Rodding and Re-styling ran an article on the Lancaster, PA Cam Jammers show. Kenney's Crown Vic was indentified as a '55 model.
If I remember correctly, this car was built by Dick Korkes from Whippany, NJ, who later went on to work for Barris.
A belated thanks for your answer, Chop. But I'm not so sure, since the story (which could have had it wrong) mentions that "Herb" was the builder.
