  1. Yes Rick, that was it. But I don't recall the go-cart

    Rick:

Yeah, the go-cart was made by one of our employees. Jim G. was banzai'ng it in the Lumber City parking lot, but before I got my turn the drive chain was found to be eating through the suspension. Too bad, that thing looked like it'd be some real fun.

    Groucho:

Don't remember his name. I'm not sure of the timeline now. It was probably before the Lirones', so it may very well have been before BottleWorks. And although Rick mentioned both the roadster and go-cart in adjoining sentences, the actual events may have been separated by years.

I live in Washington and wished I had the time to go cruise Van Nuys nowadays but it is what it is.
I understand that the area is really in poor shape. Guess those local punk business owners got what they deserved.......low class customers and very little business with a big helping of illegal aliens that have no civic pride. Again, it is what it is.
The illegal alien's are the ones that brought MY BLVD. DOWN.
Why don't you locals help INS round up those bitch's and then organize not a cruise, but a "Clean-up" of sorts.
Go talk to the NEW business owners and show them some old copies of HOT ROD, CAR CRAFT, POPULAR HOT RODDING, etc. (ask Tony Noto, he's connected)(Hey Tony, jump in any time bud!!)
You show those business owners all that FREE advertising and watch the greed come out, especially in these economic times in those business people!!
Remember, you don't have to work with ANY law enforcement agency.
Van Nuys blvd, as is every public road surface is FEDERALLY OWNED. No city, State or County has title, only FEDERAL!! This is what gives you the right as an American from California to drive on our surfaces up here in Wash.
For the ignorant it is called "YOUR right to travel".
Here's your biggest problem, most of you are cowards and cower at the first signs of illegal intervention by law enforcement.
Don't get me wrong, it's not the patrol officer being the problem it's the piece of crap he works for. Been there, done that, not gonna argue with ya about it.
You are'nt gonna tell me anything I don't already know about that scenario. Key words, "Captain Judd, circa 1970-76, Van Nuys Div." Right SGT. Duane Smith and Liasion Officer Paul Hospedor? Your frickin ass I'm right!!
I'm not gonna go into all the details here but will I help from up here where the air is sweet and pure? You bet, by phone! Go down there and have to deal with learning to speak Spanish as my first language? Not on your life. (The migrant workers up here have learned to not open their mouth cause we WILL have INS down on them in a heartbeat, believe that).
There is no safe haven for illegal's up here. :eek:Wanta become an American? Follow the laws.
Wanna cruise Van Nuys? Go ahead, you have the right. The business owners don't have anymore rights than you but you have the right to boycott them OR protest them, but again I don't think there's many of you that have any testicles left. Sorry. It is what it is. Just got BIG words when your grouped in a tight little circle in your garage where the "Powers that be can't see/hear you?", real brave!
I proved who I was and still am. I got the "No Cruising signs" removed up here and the cops can't do crap about dark windows (tint) or lifts on a car OR spectators at a street race!!!!! I can't believe that some of you fall for that!! COWARDS! Afraid to defend yourselfs!! And hence why you don't cruise VN on ANY night. Wanna talk? 360-672-4359, "GOT'CHA". I don't like typing, it hurts my 2 fingers! Peace out.

Miguel, it is what it is. The comment fits even my ancestry, Swiss. I've noticed in past input from you that your REAL defensive of your ancestry, which isn't bad, but settle down vato, were talking about AMERICANS possessions, not illegal ANYBODIES. Concert your energy and direction on the thread, not your defense of what IS illegal. It is you that is having trouble with the real problem, especially when you attempt to defend PART of the VN problem. Does it matter WHO has defaced the VN area? No? But is the writting on the walls in Spanish? You tell me. I'm not a racist but I sure am all American. This thread is about cruising in the old days on Van Nuys Blvd. and from time to time someone wants to know why it "went away". What comes out of my mouth is facts and the truth. I don't know you but I still respect you as an American that is evidently into cars. And as far as being there until '77, no body has any more time on VN than me. No body spent more time in the VN police dept fighting for the street people than me. So cool yur engines my friend, anything I did down there was for peolpe like you, car enthusist. And why I came up here was not to run away from anything but TOO something, sure it did'nt have a Van Nuys Blvd so I made my own. It was called Martin Way and I placed my Speed shop on it for 28 years and I helped to continue to make memories for car freaks that have might never had been able to experience cruising. Say what you will but you took something I said and made it yur own. Get over yourself and quit defending those that have done wrong. Remember I'm only going by what others have told me about the area. And again the thread is based on the "old days" and a question has been posed by this other youngster, "What happened?" What DID happen Miguel????? Lets hear your outlook. At no time have I heard you offer a cure. I'm listening, as are many more.

Are you stupid or what? talk behind a computer? Check my background kid. Don't ask silly questions ON a computer if you can't appreciate the answer that comes back. What is it with you Californians any more? I'm a graduate of SAN FERNANDO HIGH essay and the only surviving member of "THE VALLEY UNDERTAKERS, SFV", the other 14 members were lost in Viet Nam. So you watch where you step and learn some respect before you shoot your mouth off. I talk shit when I'm in someones face. What I said is fact. Deal with it.

I come on this site a lot and usually don't comment on shit, most of the time i don't even sign in. what im on here for is to read about the hot rod and kustom kulture old or new. the last thing i want to come on here for is to read a this bullshit about illegals this or illegals that. i was taught to respect people and right now im respecting the person that runs this board and i dont want to get kicked off for going off on you. now like i said before this forum is not the place for this.

You said it. Last I checked, this was a traditional rod forum, not a place to spout off racist diatribes.

    Hey Guys!
I cruised Van Nuys till it was shut down I even have one of the no parking on Wednesday nights signs still hung up in my garage! Hmmm Good Ebay Item! I just bought a 67 Corvette that was customized by Bruno's Corvette & hung out on Van Nuys Blvd. Anyone remember or have any pics of the Pearl white W/ wild red & blue stripes & will remember Datsun 240 Z headlights stuck on top of fenders real weird looking I'm looking for any pics!
Vans Nuys Blvd Kept all us guys out of trouble! The only thing we thought of was to cruise Wed & Fri nights! We had no time for drugs or getting in trouble all we lived was Cars & keeping them running! Damm they shut us down!! What were they thinking??? Give kids something to do & they stay out of trouble hell if I didn't have cars now I would be out of business! Thanks Bill

Sorry I ruffled your feathers Miguel, my concern is and always has been for the good of cruising and street racing, safe street racing. I don't care what the reason was that cruising was brought to a close AFTER I left, I THOUGHT it was in good hands.
