  7. Grundy, they let me have my big block and all the chassis mods I want as long as they are safe. Easy to do on line if you wish or by snail mail it's up to you and they are located in Pennsylvania. Rags

Be aware rates vary even within the same company depending on where you live. Hagerty hinted it has to do with theft claims rates. When I moved from NC to Ark they wanted a 15% higher premium on an agreed value of 25K.

I'll tell you what, whatever you do I would avoid SAFECO like the Plague. I had a claim on one of my cars and the insurance represenative that came to my house treated me like a criminal and made me feel like I had done something wrong. This was the first time I have ever turned in a claim to my own insurance company and I could not believe how bad the experience was. I had to pay for all of the damage from my own pocket in addition to the terrifying thought that I actually pay several thousand dollars a year for a service that turned out to be useless with rude represenatives. SAFECO.......BAD!

Give American Modern a call. (They are not American Hobbyist) They are not an agency-they are the actual AAA rated carrier and they pass the savings on to you. Give Teresa Cook a call and tell them Mecum sent you:

American Modern just launched a big deal with Mecum and have their own fleet of adjusters and our great people. Based in Cincinnati area and have been around for 50+ years.

Well I have gotten quotes from 2 companys so far and i have not been able to go below $1,000 a year yet. I am going to call a couple agents and a few mentioned on this post tommorow to get quotes. The cheapest so far that i have found was $95.00 a month for just liability.
Thanks for all the replies Nate

This sounds to me like it is your only car then and you'll be using it as a daily driver? If thats the case you must have alot of tickets or something cuz I have liability only on my daily driver and it's $42.00 per month.

I just read your profile, 21 years old. Bummer. I remember paying thru the nose for car insurance till age 25.

What kind of car? Is it your only mode of transportation? If so, you won't be able to use a "speciality" insurance company.

Try this one too. I had them many years ago and got a great rate on my Corvette. Sneed, Robinson and Gerber outta TN.

I don't agree with Gasser at all, My '97 Yukon was stolen back in November and they treated me more than fair, and paid off the Yukon in resonable time, maybe you had a BAD adjuster Gasser ?
All of our Cars and home are covered by Safeco !

I sent my $$$ into American Hobbist for 2 of my vehicles. I got the line of BS stating that my primary vehicles were to old!! Thats how I afford hot rods.... no car payments!!!!! I spend all my $$$$ on the hot rods!

I do know to tell little white lies to the insurance companies. NEVER tell them you might drive the car to work, once and a while. They say NO real quick. Were not gonna sell you insurance so you can drive your car!?!?!

acctually i think i payed..$210..and it is covered for alot and also have full coverage with low deductable..it helps when you got other stuff insured with them too

  24. Here's an update for this thread.

I called JC Taylor today, since they were pretty cheap. If your car isn't quite finished, or is in primer, don't even waste your time, I got treated like abseloute shit by the underwriter and phone operator I talked to today. I'd hate like hell to have to report a claim to these jerks. Another car could fall out of the sky on top of me and they'd want a video of it to prove it happened that way.

Bear in mind I wanted to put on my '50 Chevy, which is worth I figure about $2500 - I paid $200 for the car and have maybe $400 more in it, and won't have $1200 into it to be driving it, so I'm sure I could replace it for that. And I need to register another car just for 90 days or so so I can get a NYS registration.

The guy actually told me it wouldn't be worth their time to insure the car for 90 days, that they'd lose money and if they lose money they go out of buisness. I told him it's not my problem if they don't charge enough to make money on a policy like that, if they're not making any money then they need to charge enough to make a profit, that's basic business. I never even got to address the fact that I'll probably replace that car with another car as soon as I get the clear NYS reg in the mail.

And they don't want to bother with cars in primer that are going to be in primer for a while. If you're not going to paint it in the next 60 days, forget it. Apparently flat black isn't a color. He had the gall to compare my car to a "rat rod" even though where I'm spending the cash first is on brakes and things to make it safer to drive. Painting it right costs money; the bodywork on this car is terrible and needs a lot of redoing before trying to put any kind of decent paint job on it. And I don't want to paint it with a roller.

The only good thing they tell me is that a '50 with a '56 235 and open drive would probably still qualfiy as original for their purposes, only if it had a V8 with a large increase in horsepower would it become "modified".

So after I hung up with this moron I called up the State Farm agent that's less than a mile away and got a quote.

$288 for basic liability on my late model daily and around $60 each for liability, comp and collision on the '50 and on the second car. Bear in mind my current company gets $369 for 6 months on my daily and almost as much more for the '50 (like $9 less) - and won't even insure cars made before 1940. I added some basic comp to the daily and the total for three cars for six months is only $440. That's with a stated value on both antiques of $2500. My current policy is the state minumums for injury and property damage, the State Farm quote is for $100K/$300K instead of $25K/$50K. And they could give a damn what it looks like, where I store it, or if it even runs. When I do the changeover tomorrow I'm going to see if there's any milage limit, and what kind of deductable there is.

Based on today's call, though, even if I had money falling out of my ass and had a couple of cherry, perfect cars to insure, I'd take the plates off and park them before calling JC Taylor.

GRUNDY. Pay abour $500 for 45,000 of coverage. Hands down it currently the best insurance out there.
If a better one comes a long Ill tell the world too (and you never know if that just may be a happening soon....)They only require it be in a garage -no mileage restrictions (which was what I was having issues with) and primer is cool too

Grundy = have to have 10 years driving exp.
Hagerty = should insure you with your age issue, but it might be about $500ish/year. As long as you have another insurace policy with "daily drivers" you should be ok.

I'm just able to switch over to Grundy now - and I'll save over $300/year with them compared to Hagerty.

I posted this question earlier today and the majority seem to go with state farm. Im givin them a call.

  28. If nothing else, with State Farm you can insure your late model and your rod and pay just one bill a month.

A friend tells me this is how you work JC Taylor -
I suppose that way if you ever had to turn in a claim you'd be screwed, or if you had an at fault accident, but it is an option.

I use Grundy for my '39 Tudor $205.00 12K agreed value, CSAA for the '67 Dart $482.00 full coverage/ACV, and Geico for the daily drivers. SHhh! Don't let 'em know you drive your classic to the market for milk/beer
