I was wondering who drives a hotrod as your only car?? Not a fifties ride, but an actual thirties roadster or coupe. What kind of fuel mileage could you get out of a flatty?

If your worried about gas mileage put in a V-8 60
But then it might not be considered a Hot Rod......OH, Never mind
I drive all my old stuff as much as I can..... keeps me and them in good humor :D

I have been put in this situation, my car was totaled and if I could drive my coupe I could save myself the trouble and money of buying a car. I just hope to get through the summer. I also dont expect to get 30 miles to the gallon, just not 10 miles to the gallon.

  5. I drive mine when ever I can .....the problem here (UK) is gas is nearly £5.00 a gallon. That means the last long journey I took in the A (90miles each way) cost me $130-$140 I don't mind (or I'rd buy a honda) but it does sting a bit!!

This my daily driver.... I can't keep my foot out of the Chevy 301 2 four-barrels, has a 9" torque convertor and 3.50 gears....I get 12-16 MPG in town and 18 MPG on the Interstate because the convertor is still slipping
I know that if I put a tight-convertor in it I could get 22+ MPG on the highway, but that would just ruin the rush:D

I used to drive my 33 pick up everyday to work in the summer, til some neighborhood shithead stole a bunch of my stuff out of it..it dosn't lock. I work in an area that is no longer a good one and just can't keep watch over it from inside the shop..
BUT, i think i'll be driving it daily again. It's wayyyy better than my GMC on gas..:)

Hey you built it to drive. As long as the local police aren't a problem have fun!

My Sleds, Hot Rods, and old trucks always got better mileage that the Rolls Royce AND no one looked at me like I was the ''Landloard'':D

Driving the car more will give you a chance to expand the "What I'll do to the ''Next one'' list.... that's good for you both!

I flew to Joplin and drove a '62 Chevy Suburban back 1,000 miles, and have been driving it every day since (about three months now). Don't know the mileage, but it's about what my '01 Dodge Dakota was getting.
We sold my wife's car, gave her the Dakota, and I'm "stuck" with it every day...Spartan, loud, not a single piece of weather stripping, granny 4spd and 4.10 gears behind a tired 283...but I'd be real happy to never drive a car without vent windows again.

This is my daily. Usually a couple of weeks in January when it's too damn cold..(no windows), but other than that, everyday.

She gets about 20 on the highway, but 12-15 around town. (10 inch converter kills the town mileage..)

    ..and runs a 12 second 1/4

Drive my sixty-three rambler everyday. put 20,000 miles on her last year. she is on the chopping block for the second week in a row now, undergoing a new engine and transmission swap. expect another 20k miles this year.

I like to think that I make up for the hybrids when it comes to gas consumption. It's not about miles per gallon, more like gallons per mile.

  16. I drive mine every day that the sun shines between mid April and end of September----but thats not really a big deal because I work from home. Everybody around Barrie (pop 135,000) knows my car. I use it for trips to the convenience store, any in-town business, going to the barber, and just to get out of the house at night for a cruise. The mileage is about 16 mpg, but hey, if you can afford a hotrod, you can afford the gas!!! I don't think I'd use the hotrod as a commuter car, but then I always have my Ford Ranger for any long distance stuff.-----Brian

If I drive somewhere, I drive my '40 GMC.
I figure it gets close to 20 mpg on the highway with a 262" SBC.

If I peddle, I may take my '71 Motobecane 10 speed I bought new, or the Nishiki 10 speed triathalon geometry chromemoly frame bike I recently got from the Salvation Army for $45, or my $70 Target "MAGNA" sorta-mountain bike with the WWW tire upgrade, or my '57 Schwinn Corvette. Depending on my mood, and sometimes just which one has air in the tires.

    Or I "Foot Cruise".

My '64 C-10 Daily Driver/Daily Project... 350/3spd/12-bolt gets crappy mileage, 40-mile daily roundtrip commute. Gas gauge & speedo crapped out last week but the fixit parts should be here anyday now.

:D How often you hear people talking about how their cowl vent leaks! Most people are busy bitching about their AC not working. hehe
