We're getting hammered in Detroit, right now. Thousands without power from 50-mph winds, then 25 F, then snow for the morning commute. Nice, eh? If it weren't for the kids and grandkids, I'd be down south. - Dave

Somehow the storm went just north of us, we only got ice and about an inch of snow.
Woke up this morning, it was 4 degrees. Now, at lunch, it's a 'balmy' 18 degrees. Compared to close to zero temps, 18 degrees feels......nice. Like it's 40 deg. or something:rolleyes:

  7. WOW 12/11/09 -7 today, 14" of snow, sure wish the packers were playing today!!! Go #12, Brent who??

  8. took yesterday off and showed up at the shop this morning and it was 0 deg F in the shop, :eek:stared at the thermometer and just had a hard time beliveing:( that it was that cold inside
maybee it will warm up some soon?:p

I think it is just so funney when in CA in the winter and the locals just are in a tiz when its raining, let it rain, thats good weather compared to a major Ice STORM!! I dont think most of them know what real bad weather is, but floods and fires look a little inconvienent and that other thing like mudslides, we dont get much of those but we are a frozen wasteland for about 4 months or more??

I just have to mention that its 11:30 pm local and its 50'F out. My girl keeps buggin' me to go see the snow but we don't get much, if any, here in AZ. My neighbor and I polished up a couple of his Harleys and took a blast through the desert earlier this afternoon. Tee-shirt and jeans weather here boys...

  13. Seriously, I don't know how you guys deal with that crap! If we are unlucky enough to get snow,it last for a few days at the most.

Great Picture!! Now (carefully) put a Christmas tree on it and you have your Christmas card for this year!

  15. I've spent many hours, days, and weeks in the cold working on cars.

I remember once I waited UNTIL IT WARMED UP TO ZERO to change a starter -- OUTSIDE!

I miss the snows of Minnesota, but I like NorCal, too.

  16. I havent shut my truck off in 14 hours, and it will probably stay running all weekend if this cold keeps up. I'm at my girl friends and there is nowhere to plug it in. Just checked on it not too long ago, I've only burned a 1/8 of a tank.

  18. That is a great article. I love that the planes were stalling at the airport because it was too cold. Hard to believe they are calling for tempuratures around zero by the end of the week. The weather here is nuts.:D

The block heater in my wife's d/d died. It's been so cold it will barely turn over. The temps are supposed to climb to -8C on Wednesday so I'll try again then. Not looking forward to fixing it in the cold, either. :(

  21. At least it keeps the beer and soda cold...

  22. It's all good until you forget that un-opened can of Mt.Dew inside the car . . .

Here's a couple pics from the last few days here in IA. - 14.5 inches of snow drifted by 30-40mph winds. As if the snow wasn't enough "Fun", we got hit with freezing rain this morning.
Now, If I could just remember which drift the beer is in . . .

It's almost ALWAYS the cord. I have one of those block heater checker things and check all my heaters before the cold sets in. If you only typically used one car, you can just leave it on the cord and you can see every time you plug in you'll see if it's working.

  25. Whew!!! We can relate, it was in the 40's and we got a whole 2 inches of rain...in one week!!! But now we have to suffer until it gets back to the mid-70's this week. Don't know how we survived.
BTW - The first time I went to PRI in Indy it was 0 degrees with a minus 15 wind chill. I did think "how stupid is it to live here?" Snow blowing horizontally while doing the Gasoline Alley tour. Then I realized I caught the stupidity, I was walking from shop to shop in that cold.
