I bought a '67 Nova in '83 for $225.00, took out the 6 pin 3spd, went to the local junkyard, old George Cox put a '69 impala on it's side so I could unbolt the 327 Took that home, rebuilt it & put a muncie 4sp behind it. I went to school in princeton NJ, all the other kids had "gift" cars from their parents...

I think mine rated right on up there. I was in high school in 82-86 in Kentucky. I had a 1965 Dodge Coronet. That puppy screamed. Low profile GT Dunlop Qualifiers on it. 318 cleaned and roaring with cherry bombs. confederate blue/gray exterior. Dropped like 2 auto trannys on that puppy in 2 years. I LOVED that car. Went in the Navy and my daddy passed it on to my uncle "to keep" for me while i was gone. Next thing I know is my no-good drunken uncle wraps that dang thing around a tree in some field and was so drunk he doesn't remember where it was. Well, long story short fast forward for 20 years and I looked for that car for 3 years solid. Had everyone in the family looking for it. Got a call from my cousin and he found it...only 3 days too late...it went to the shredder. I was broken hearted.
we had a car club - The Show-n-Go club. we had a 1967 camaro that was freakin sick, Mach 1 mustang, '79 corvette, 76 T/A, 65 Coronet...all in the same spots daily (that is when we were at school)

  6. Hands down, Butchies 60 altered wheelbase falcon.
rear end 12 inches forward, front axle, 8 inches forward.
427 chevy power, first,a pushbutton torqueflite,
    later a 4 speed muncie. 57 olds rear,488 gears.
rolls royce cloud silver paint, w/blue tint
windows. wheelstand king of the high school parking lot.
All this against a parking lot full of muscle.
    Billy B's willys, Joe boy's 49 ford w/413 chyrsler,
Earnie the beaks new 66 chevy 2, Phils 48 ford with
the front so high, I could stand eye to eye with his
headlights. Lambs 50 chevy that almost matched Phils
headlight height. My own 55 was kinda humble compared
to these guys. 235 six w/cam, dual carbs, split manifold,
4.11 posi rear, w/long ladder bars.
Ohh man. now if you boys will excuse me, I need a
    little "alone time"

HI:In 1969 I had a 39 ford coupe with a 40 deluxe nose , no hood, 389 tri power 3 speed with a hurst syncro loc shifter, 57 pontiac rear, chrome front wheels, black back wheels,no money for chrome rear wheels. Bought the 5 foot ladder bars off the Jerry's Auto Supply 41 Willys when he went to a different rear setup, that cured the bad wheel hop, had Dave Mehelich(same guy who made the Mehelich wheels)paint it 56 packard naples orange for 25 dollars when I worked for him after school in his body shop.latter I put a model T rear spring in front to jack it up like a gasser, that did'nt work to well, the spring collasped in the driveway! we street raced that car about every night, that pontiac would just explode when those end 2 two barrels would come in! it would hold its own with the new muscle cars that just came out! THANKS Chris

Funny how people can remember when they first saw ss cragars. Mine was what looked like a 68 or 69 Coronet that sat in the front lawn of a house in the roughest part of South Auckland in the mid 70's. It was purple with a big snot in the rear quarter, am guessing they couldn't get the parts for it so it just sad there for ages. Amazingly no-one stole the wheels off that thing, weird.

  9. When I was in grade school there were a lot of cool cars. I would go to high school football games and spend more time in the parking lot looking at the cool cars under the bright lights then I did watching the game. There were copped and channeled coupes, sectioned shoe boxes, Plymouth coupe, 50 mercury shaved and scalloped, 27 track tee, fenderless 29 roadster with a sbc, 55 Chevys, 46 Ford coupe with louvered hood, a lot of 47 t0 54 Chevys with split manifolds, 58 Ford hardtop, 58 Chevy convertible, A channeled Chevy coupe with a 32 grille and flathead Ford v8 and a 35 ford two door sedan. The parking lot was really neat. Some of the cars were students and other were graduates. It was a car show.

I drive by the high school now and nobody seems to be interested in cars.

Saturday night was another car show on main street. That was when everybody went to the movie theater.

I drove a cool car for one day.1964 and my 56 Ford was broken down again. My dad's business had a good year and he bought himself a 64 Buick Riveria. He actually let me drive the car to H.S. one day. Also at school that day was the Hogan kid driving his dad's 64 Riveria. We lined up side by side on the road and smoked the right rear tires down the road while half the school saw us.A few hotties who normally wouldn't talk to me were even friendly. The fame didn't last long and the next day I was one again a piece of shit hanging out with sluts.

  13. I did'nt have the cool one...mine was a '64 Chevy pickup with a 6 banger and 3 on-the-tree.......but my running buddies had the following.....Bryan had the '69 Camaro w/350 and powerglide, Holly had the '67 Ford Fairlane with a 429/4 speed, and the mother of 'em all.......Karl had the 1969 Super Bee with Factory 440/6 pack and 4 speed. The Camaro was restored because Bryans dad had a body shop....the rest were origional paint cars with enough turtle wax on them to make them shine !
The best news....we did not have police in town....closest was the sheriff dept in Waco !!!......but for some reason State Troopers would pass thru town on saturday night.... Dont know why....we were ANGELS:rolleyes: !

There's too much money in California. :p I had one of the 4 coolest cars in HS, a 63 Nova 2 dr hardtop (with cut out wheel wells, slot mags, teardrop hood scoop, etc.). The other 3 coolest were a nice ground pounding 67 Camaro with 70's custom paint and the best 2, a 32 Chevy sedan and cool 34 Plymouth coupe. Both guys still have the 32 and 34.

Well seeing as how I Graduated in 98 and got my license in 96 it wasnt hard to have the coolest car in the parking lot amidst a sea of cavaliers , mustangs and berrettas . But these were my 2 high school rides , so Id say i had the coolest in the lot , and since then i havent seen anything out there since that would come close.

This cat named Duane Thaden drove an absolutely beautiful late 60's Camaro in our Senior Year of high school (1985). Silver with black rally stripes, and a Big Block to boot, just sick man! He was a cool guy too. Poor dude died on the operating table after a motorcycle wreck. He was just kid... What a shame, nobody in his family was ever the same after that. I had not thought of him in years until I saw this thread. Poor guy...

  21. I had the coolest car in school. At least I think I did and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.:p

Ther were some pretty smooth cars in the school I went to. Some were pops bought it for me cars and others were scabed together we did it our selves cars.

Not too many grease style customs but most of us were too busy trying to go fast to stand around singing at each other.

1960-My friend Whitey had a 1949 Chevy fast back with a 261 truck engine with 2 1bbl and cast headers. It sat low in the front, had 40 Chevy tail lights and was painted flat black with red wheels and wide whites. It sounded like a B 29 in a power dive. There were a lot of flashier and more powerful cars in the lot but in my opinion it was the coolest car there.

My Senior year in '75 saw a parking lot FULL of Muscle cars. GTO's, 442's, Camaro's, Malibu's, GTX, Road Runner's, .....and I didn't want anything to do with ANY of them Factory Hot Rods. These kids would go from the dealership, to the tire store for some Cragars, and wide Ovals, then go straight to the cruise sight. The only imagination they had was what color, and type af Mag wheel to bolt on. They were all listening to E.L.P., and Elton John. I was diggin' Elvis.
