Who had the coolest car in school?

Class of 93. Me the fastest and in my eyes the coolest. 1968 Chevelle 300 Deluxe L79 4spd. Black/ black bench seat interior. The little L79 had a bit of work and a 4.10 posi. Our HS parking lot was a sea of 5.Slows and only a few older cars. Which were my freind's rides. It had 15x7 and 15x8 stelies with the 300 Deluxe poverty caps, with 235/60 and 275/60 BFGs. It was/is a real sleeper.

I owe graduating to that car! my senior english teacher had a 69 mach 1 with a 351w and toploader 4spd. He gave me crap everyday about my shitrolet. I just took it, Because I had enough trouble with pissing off a teacher. Well about 2 months into my senior year, I had had enough of his crap and told him to be at the Atlanta dragway that friday night for test and tune, But that if I won I got to skate through his class for the rest of the year. The whole class was watching, So he agreeded so he didn't look like a punk, Well 90% of the school tuned out at the track and he was talking much more smack since we were off school grounds. I started my car and that when he figured out real fast he just got sucked! He thought the chevelle was a 250 I6 or at most a 283 car. Well he was the 1 to get schooled that night! 11.47@ 116 to his 13.90 something. It was also the best light I ever cut on a .500 sportman tree. .506
My dad still has the car. Its just as much fun today as it was almost 20 years ago!

 

Well i go to a school full of kids with lifted diesels, lexus', and mercedes...

so i have to say my 51 pontiac is the coolest in school. until some new kid pulls up in a 36 3-window or something....

 

Too many cool cars to pick! I went to High School in Northern Cal and our school,s parking lot had plenty of 'signs' of big, old money: E-Jags, Vettes, Porches, etc, but plenty of 'bust yer ass, work for it, and pay your own way' car owners too. In '62-'65 I saw some of the baddest, coolest machinery I've ever seen, all in our high school parking lot; a bunch of 'Tri Fivers' because they represented the average ten year old car kids could get their hands on, a sweet '58 Impala that looked the spitting image of Steve's '58 in "American Graffiti," and our fair share of early Fords. Cruising Main St. was a whole lot like the movie! Of course it helped that most of the filming was done on the roads and the small towns that we all used to cruise , but seeing wicked A-bones, Fortys, and 'huffed' Chevies was exactly what I remember in High School. I only had to go as far as next door to shoot the shit with Chuck Smith, who a couple of years later as co-owner, campaigned "Ground Pounder," a nasty, fat fender-flared '66 or '67 Vette Roadster that ran Motorcross at what was then known as Sears Point Raceway. They were great days for American, metal 'eye candy' cars, on their way out, but still perfectly represented by "American Graffiti" for this ol' hot rodder. I drove a Burgundy Flattie- powered '37 Ford Tudor as a senior, and one of the 'car loves of my life' the year after I graduated: a bright ass Red '34 Ford Tudor with a '57 Vette motor, funky 3-speed, 56 Chevy rearend, and about 1 1/2 or 2 inches ground clearance from the grille (thanks to John Moore of Mor-Drop.) A lot of great mentors, and great memories of a time when the most important thing in my life was having a couple bucks left to fill up the tank! Little did I know a year later me and my buddies would have to worry about dodging bullets, Ha-Ha, not unlike "Hollywood Knights," come to think of it. What's the old saying; Art imitates life? Here was mine. My first car I worked my ass off to afford the roller at a mere 14 years old. Paid $900 for it. I built an SBC for it and had it running/driving to HS by the time I could legally drive. This was 94-96. I'd say it was by far the coolest car in the lot at the time, aside from a few new rides thanks to mommy and daddy. I was the somewhat quiet, flannel shirt wearing hillybilly wrench type. I got a handfull of flack by the haters of the day but F them. I liked it and so did many others. I was proud to own it and proud to have a lot of blood sweat and tears in it.

 

Here was the other one. My mullet machine. I had both cars at the same time......this car was most of my senior year. A mildly built SBC and it was a blast to drive. I at least thought it was the coolest car. Burnouts and sideways everywhere, every day. This car got me in a bit of trouble.......in school and out. I had started JR year working for a local electrician and was able to save money pretty good to put towards my toys. Ahhh the good ol days!

 

Well, seeing I went to high school in the mid 90's there wasn't a whole lot of "cool" going on. My high school was a bunch of rich kids too, so "cool" was a new beemer or mercedes or new truck with a huge lift. I was ok in my own little world of cool driving this around. It was pretty quick too. Had a 283 stroker w/4.11's and a th350 with a shift kit. Ran pretty strong right up to it's top speed of about 80 mph. lol....





Still have the car too. I love it. Seems to be a never-ending work in progress!

 

Well, it wasn't the coolest, but it wasn't the lamest either.
I graduated in 1983 and drove the 67 Charger through most of HS

 

Mine was! '56 Ford...man was it fun. I graduated in '87. My 7 year old is already working on his '48 so it'll be the coolest when he's in school.

 

I had '58 chevy ragtop w/ skirts, continental kit, 6 cyl w/ powerglide but a buddy had a 1965 Impala SS convert with 396, powerglide, etc. I still love that '65 to this day (I graduated in 1970)

 

In 1998-2000 I had two cars. 1971 Ford Torino with a 351W, Gabriel Hi-Jackers, glass pack mufflers and Cragar SS/Ts. It looked fast but was slow, slow, slow! Perfect for a HS stupid, I mean student.

My other car was a '65 Thunderbird with white interior. It was damn nice, but I was too much of a dork to use it to my advantage, heh heh.

 

In HS I drove my 1960 Catalina and my 1958 IH. Loved em both and both are still at the family ranch. Though nobody ever felt the same as I did when it came to vintange steel. It was always about the fastest and shiniest new thing. Wonder how many people still have thier civic?LB

 

Where im from Hot Rods were not as cool as the spoiled kid with the lifted 4x4 diesel truck. A couple muscle cars were cool but the guys that had them were not really into cars. My best buddy had a 57 Buick and it was more of a custom, we and a couple other guys were the only people who knew it was bad ass. I had a souped up VW but nobody thought it was cool but me a a couple others. Nobody had a 5.0 mustang but those were the "holy grail" for quite a few guys. Another one of my friends had a 54 chrysler new yorker vert with a 331 HEMI that was bitchin and the chicks loved it. I would have loved to grow up in a town where hot rods and street cars were the "cool cars".

 

Dave Mahelich had a nice, black, A coupe with a built banger and Buick wires that he parked when he finished his maroon 32 2-door with the 327, 4 speed, and Americans. Ross Bendixen bought a super clean baby blue and white 55 Chev post, built 327 and 4 speed, to try and beat Carl Rotemeyer's typical 57 Chev post with a similar combination. Dave ended up selling the sedan and regretting it, building more along the way and even another 2 door. Carl wrecked the 57 and ended up driving a 52 Chev wagon that may have had the running gear out of the 57 in it, and Ross blew up the 55 finally. He got a job at the local trailer manufacturer to pay for the car expenses and they taught him to weld trailer frames together, and a few years later, Ross is a big-time metal sculptor and furniture maker. Me? I had a Honda 305 Super Hawk and a 55 Chrysler New Yorker hardtop, and they were reliable as rocks.

 

i didnt have the coolest, probably the loudest.

 

All I had to drive was a 1933 ford 3 window that only run sometimes. that was in 1960

 

In my dreams. No rich daddy, we came from poor blue collar family. However, he you dies with the most toys wins!

 

Not the coolest but I did have a pretty eclectic assortment. '55 Sunliner, '58 Borgward combi, and a 49 Packard Limo.

 

Never drove in H.S but always rode in my buddy Jeremy's 63 Bonneville with a 389 4v

Might have been me...my first car (bought when I was 15 for $25) was a 53 Ford Sedan Delivery, then a 56 Ford 1/2 ton and last but certainly not least a 69 Mach 1 428 CJ, 4 speed, shaker. I am from a blue collar family & worked my a$$ off cutting grass, shovelling snow and working in a salt mine (no $hit) for my cars. Ahhh, the good old days.

 

Hands down, my wife's high school boyfriend. Brand spanking new Roadrunner.


I lived out in the sticks and had no money at all,.......rode the big yellow dorky bus.

 

This was my High School ride, still have it 38 yrs later.

Tore up plenty of VHS parking lot in my 1965 Corvette coupe (mom and dad's wedding present ) c/o 1985 !!
Mostly hated by guys, but all the girls wanted a ride !!!!

A buddy of mine had a late 60's vw beetle/bug/whatever. Not so cool really except his dad ran a Porsche dealership. He took it and had the top chopped, added 911 mirrors and a whale tale, limo tinted windows and then had a really nice fire engine red paint job put on it. He called it the slut bug cuz they all came running when we'd roll up into the school parking lot.

Now I don't think that is such a cool ride but it was the 80's and we were teenagers...go figure.

Personally I was pimpin in my '87 Suzuki Samarai (well it was mom's but whatever)!

 

On regular days I drove a total POS 1985 Camaro Berlinetta. Normally people look back at their high school car with rose colored glasses...but I look back at that car....and no matter what....I still say it's a total POS.


<----------But...on special occasions and sunny, warm days I got to drive the little truck to the left.

All the guys were envious.....all the girls thought it was just loud and wierd....whatever ladies....
