Who has a Gasser style car ? Stand up and be counted !

Hey Mike....IF we keep the E.T.'s at 12.00 and slower, I don't believe anyone can mess with us. As far as I'm concerned, it's all about having fun anyway.
I'll just short shift or put a bolt under the gas pedal....

I agree with you, weight transfer IS much better, and as we all know, MOST tracks and ALL streets are maginal at best.
So, I'm going to have no matter what.
Build it, Drive it to and from the track, and to the store!

This one has all the makings. Short wheelbase, beam front
axle, rear wheels tucked in just behind the door and the
factory even named it a FLYING 8.(1940s STANDARD) british
built.Lightweight too.

I'm digging this post, but have to admit my ignorance. COuld someone please enlighten me on A/G, A/A, A/Fx, C/G, etc. I know they're racing classes, but what's the difference and meaning? Thanks!

 

Thats right, but it came with a pissy little 4 cyl flathead.
Also had an aluminium G,box.I,ve got 2 of ,em. This one is
the good one.

Here are a couple of photos from the Gasser Circus, held at Stratford, England last year. This was the first year the circus was held and something like 8 or 10 cars appeared. There are apparently another 20 on their way.

A/G,B/G,C/G,D/G...the A-D was determined by the cubic inches of your engine and the averall weight of the car.
The G stands for Gasser, which in the beginnig was a street legal ( exhaust,wipers,etc.) car with another (larger) engine installed, with carbs or injection, NO Blower. The A/GS series numbers were for the Supercharged engine cars.

A/A,B/A,C/A,D/A, ....same basiscs, except that the A stands for Altered, meaning you altered the car from stock, ie: removed the fenders, hood, or changed the wheelbase. I've attached a picture of my Original '47 Crosley Wagon that had a 426 Hemi in it, and was raced as a B/Altered back in '66-'69.

A/FX.... FX stands for "Factory Experimental", which were generally speaking American made '64-'66 era cars, ie: ChevyII Nova's, Plymouth Beledere's, etc. that had the rear wheels moved forward to achieve better traction on the at the time "Harder-than-wedding-dick" drag slicks.

WOW, DonWow!!! Great numbers! It doesn't have the gasser look except for the tank, but that is a sweeeeeet lookin' ride! Tell us ALL about it, don't leave anything out!

Here,s a nice little van i had a few years ago.
It,s a 1956 OPEL OLYMPIA. a pretty rare car even in Europe.
I bought it at the end of the day at a local opel club swap meet. No one wanted it because it was,nt complete. I guess
we all buy the stuff that the restorers consider to far
gone. They just miss out on all the fun of chasing parts.

 

That has allot of simularities to the Hilman 2-dr Panel that I had, and I wish I still had it....would have made a very cool HotRod.

Run'n these things on the street does cause for a few questions by the "speed cop". On this day they questioned if I had an inspection sticker. Before I could answer the cop saz "I see it, right behind the big clock".
The clock is the monster tach, the sticker ran out the year before. Sharp eh!
