Well, since I got my 49 Club Coupe running, my neighbors are having a fit. They already have poked their heads over the wall and asked "Do you have to work on that thing so often?" I answer "yes" and keep on tuning it. It is a flathead, dual 97's, Edelbrock heads, Offenhauser manifold, running through Fentons, 2 inch pipe through a set of 17 inch Brockman steel packs. Sounds unreal, gives me a *****, but I guess I am drowning out the cl***ical music of my neighbor. I need to take a video of his head peeking over the wall while I run it...funny stuff...any of you guys have the same problems?

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you...

That being said...My neighbors are pretty understanding of my old cars. Helps that I try to do loud stuff when they aren't home and, I fix all the neighborhood bicycles, baby strollers and stuff like that.

Keeps me in thier good graces.

I push my car out of the garage in the morning when I drive it to work, to minimize the noise.. with short pipes and small baffles, it can be noisy at 6am.. so I try to be nice, fire up, stick it in gear and idle down the street some..

My neighbor is an old school biker and keeps asking when I am going to take the baffles out of my straight pipes. Sometimes I hear some loud music coming from his garage. He told me thats my cue to come over and drink some beers.

Some neighbors stop me on the street and ask about the car, some come over to the garage and check it out, some just wave. Never once have I had a negative remark, snurled nose, or bad look. There is a cop who lives across the street that even gave me a ride one time when I broke down a little ways down the road so I didnt have to walk in the heat!

I get a lot of nasty looks when I roll out of or into my apartment complex with the dumps on the Olds open (which has been every time I've driven the car since I put the dumps on).

Can you believe someone yelled at me when I did so at 2 am after Pistons & Paint? The nerve of some people!

There is an old saying...."Don't **** where you eat". You are being a bad neighbor. My neighbor has a loud v8 dodge van...absolutely no muffler for two years, and I wanna kill him...DEAD. Your next ***** may be from rigamortis if you keep disrespecting your neighbor.

I don't understand why people like loud cars. Noise doesnt define power.......................Maybe, I am just getting old, but I have never liked loud pipes.

I agree with Hatch. you should show the most respect for your neighbors. if a neighbor came home at 2am with open pipes I would have a fit also. My pipes are not very loud (less then a stock harley - really hate the guy down the street with his really loud bike) but I still try to minimize the amount of time they have to hear it early in the morning or after dark. (no different then a young kid with a booming stereo. (turn it up all you want once you are in the main street, but in the neighborhood, show some respect and turn it down... its not going to kill you).

I plan to get mufflers on my ride once I get the fenders on.... Flameabones ride is noisy but not out of line...

I wouldn't ordinarilly do such a thing...but I'm moving soon, all my neighbors are ***holes with loud dogs and unbearable b*** music. When I get into the house, I'm going to keep as quiet as I can.

Yeah, I have that problem too.

My 47 isn't making any noise right now cuz it's not that far along, and my Model A was so quiet it was hard to tell it was running. But my 68 Pro-street Dart GTS has TORMENTED one of my neighbors for nearly 10 years. The two of them are always pitching a fit over something anyway. The cops are here usually a couple times a year for everything from not keeping our yard perfect to having a couple card board boxes on the front porch (we kept them there to keep them dry until trash day which was coming in 2 days).

Anyway, I never run the Dart after 9 pm. and I usually only run it once a week, twice at the most (that is only for a few months in the summer too). My day job keeps me working into the evening most days, so I like to go for a cruise once in a while to "relieve" stress when I am done for the day. This summer I had fired it up at around 8 pm to take my wife and 12 year old daughter for a ride. I had it idling for about 2 minutes while waiting for them to come out and get in. As they came out I noticed the neighbor heading our way. She proceeded to rip me up one side and down the other for running "THAT THING" so late in the evening. She said I terrorized all the neighbors, and that all the kids in the neighborhood ran screaming whenever I fired it up. The old people are all upset, and the other neighbors hate it.

I was ready to bite a nail in two, my wife was ready to lay hands on the woman, (she was not planning on praying for her either!) and my daughter was in tears asking why the lady had to be so mean.

I really don't pay any attention to them as they are always whining about something, but I did take time to talk with the other neighbors. They basically said, "Yeah, it's loud, but you always leave right away and you don't run it late at night." Basically, no problem. And no bodies kids are terrorized, and the old people can't hear it anyway. Go figure. I also talked to the police and they said, "No problem."

The car has dual three inch exhaust with flow masters, and it really is not that loud. They just have nothing better to do than to think about me. They would be so disappointed to know how little time I spend thinking about them in return, except to tell stories so my friends can get a good laugh now and again!

So anyway, all that to say yes, I can relate to your struggle. You are NOT alone.

  15. if you want no problem with neighbors, move to a place that has no neighbors. Problem solved. Look at it another way. What if the neighbor is a whack-job and decides to shoot you? You would be in the right, but dead right doesn't really count.

I thought I was just being overly polite when I decided a long time long that I'm never even run my compressor after 8PM out of respect for my neighbors. Sounds like I'm the model citizen now.

I do plan on running loud exhaust on my coupe when I get that far and I also plan on following the same basic rule for that as the compressor.

Karma dude, it’s all about the karma.

No, but I prefer to try to live in peace with those who I have share my small part of the planet with. However, if you prefer living in a atmosphere of acrimony and hostility with you're neighbors-- You're doin a right fine job of it there son!

Yeah, that is important. I really try not to run it or rev it anymore than necessary and keep it at an idle until I get it out of the neighborhood. There is no point in antagonizing anybody. If you are always rattling the pipes and the neighbors windows, they may have cause to be annoyed.

    It's not the motor it's the headers/pipes........

  24. I hate my neighbors...

...so, when I built my exhaust, I made my own mufflers. Straight pipes that run through larger diameter tubing... to LOOK like mufflers.

350 Chev with stainless steel straight pipes... and I start it IN the garage. That's like a huge loud-speaker.

You could fart in my car and your girl would never hear ya... and it's still quieter than my neighbors rotted-off exhaust on their Cavalier.

When you live in the ghetto no one bothers you, you just got to keep EVERYTHING under lock and key. But, I keep it at idle 'till I get to the end of the street.

I think it depends where you live, we have no deed restrictions, no zoning, so it's pretty calm with the neighboors, in a new neighborhood you can have all kinda problems.

Load pipes save lives, and I like to live it up when I want to. I pay some respect when I come home after midnight though and shut it down and coast into the driveway. Some of my neighbors love to ***** and I don't want to let them down so I give em something to ***** about.

I'm building the car and working out the bugs. Whenever I start it, my neighbor freaks. Were not even talking about revving it. And I only work on it during the day. He just hates old cars, thinks it should be junked. The guy hears a mouse fart, and loses it. I've lived here since all my life, many cars, never had a problem till now. Funny, all the other neighbors come over to have a beer when Im screwing around in my garage.

Both my cars are loud, my 57 is real loud even at idle, and my 98 Mustang is pretty loud too. I live in a nice neighborhood, and I try to be respectful; leaving easy, short shifting, idle in and out between 10 pm and 9 am. Neighbors can be *****y though.

The one old hag across the street kept *****ing to me about how loud my car was, which was ridiculous, since it hadn't had an engine in it for the past 4 months. She was confused after hearing that.

The dip**** kid a few houses down has a 2000 Mustang GT that he feels the need to redline down the block at 3 am. Then I catch his ****. Got him back though. When I bought my Mustang a month ago, I did a burnout in front of his house at 4 am and all his neighbors gave him a ton of **** for it. Karma
