How well does that setup work? Boost? Do you have issues using a normal fan belt to turn the blower?

    flaked62merc,

Nice fabrication work on the Supercharger.
It looks like the carb feeds into one end...or does that manifold lead down to the bottom side of the SC?

    -------------------------------------------

    KoffinKat,

Please give my regards to Chris. That's some nice work he did on those lids.

I picked up a '72 Chevy 250 for my current project, and a TH350 that I'm not sure I want yet.

I've heard a few people talking about buying header flanges though, and I can't find any. Does anyone know where I could get a header flange for the 250?

My daily car is a 65 Falcon wagon (OZ - XP) with this 250(4.1l) alloy-head crossflow. Somehow an 8 just didn't seem right for this car....

    216, 235, 261 with starter $ 795.00

You can contact them by going to www.transmissionadapters.com

If by "5-speed", you're referring to a tranny with an OD gear, you could also search around for vintage GM 3-speed tranny's. Some came with OD option (cable operated). My father had one in his '60 Apache 10 p/u.

I got the stock re-built 194 6 in my 64 Acadian wagon (a Canadian Chevy 2) Runs great, great gas mileage. Got a chrome valve cover, dipstick, fresh GM orange on the block. May do some mild hop-up stuff in the future. Do not want to put an V8 in it. It's a cruising car...

Jeep Guys have known the performance potential of the 258 straight six for years would make a great hotrod motor!
    The History of Clifford Performance

Before founding Clifford Research in 1967, Jack Clifford raced a 1954 Hudson 308 flat-head 6 cylinder and became undefeated NHRA L/S champion in 1963.

The reason Jack chose a flat-head 6 was that Hudson Hornets started NASCAR racing back in the early 1950s at Daytona Beach, Florida. The Hudson flat-head 6 cylinder outperformed all overhead V-8s including Chrysler hemis in 1954, taking 27 out of 29 grand national races. Hudson then merged with Nash and that was the last of the champion 6s.

In 1963 Jack saw the potential of the 6 cylinder engine over V-8s in the stock NHRA drag classes. His Hornet powered Hudson won the L/Stock class at the Winternationals with a speed of 85.65 mph and c.t. of 15.77, a record that held for ten years until the class was outlawed. Amazingly, all of Jack's NHRA races were done BEFORE HEADERS, and all engines were PURE STOCK!

    1954 Hudson Hornet
    Special Coupe

Jack Clifford displays his trophies - NHRA 7th division, #2 in the top ten.
In 1964, while working as a mechanical engineer for North American Aerospace Division assigned to the Apollo Project, Ford Motor Sports Division hired Jack to beat the Chevaire race team. They were using a Chevy 327 V-8 wagon. The intention was to beat out the stock car manufacturers award at the NHRA world cup meet in Columbus, Ohio. Ford flew Jack and towed his 1954 "Hornet" powered 6 cylinder car to the meet. Ford knew they could not beat the Chevy race team without Jack's help since he held the class record too. His 6 cylinder flat-head blew the doors off the 327 V-8 Chevy by two full car lengths which allowed Ford to be #1 in the manufacturer's class. This really showed the possibilities of what a 6 cylinder flat-head could do, so by 1967 Jack made new history by using OHV sixes to go too.

After leaving the aerospace business in 1966, he started the company known as "Hudson Powered Products." By 1967 he went into "overhead" sixes, extending the product lines, and adding a research and development division.

Today, Clifford Research, now known as Clifford Performance, is the undisputed leader in 4 & 6 cylinder cars and off-road vehicles.

Dedicated to maximum horsepower, Clifford engineers have repeatedly broken new ground in bringing innovative products to car buffs around the world.

Located in Wildomar, California the company employs the latest in research, design, material and manufacturing technology. For almost 39 years Clifford Performance has been known for its quality products and attention to customer service. And Clifford stands behind the products it sells.

Pretty tame compared to some of the sixes out there by the look of it, but it's my first project and I like it!

Building this 235 for my '41 chevy 1/2 ton. Nothing unusual, just cleaned up internals and a balanced crank, with offy inlet and fenton headers. I'm going to dump these into a lake-style header cone. Wayne rocker and pushrod covers on their way. Also got a pair of Carter carbs coming soon.

One thing I learned about straight 6's is they adapt to a straight-thru muffler very nicely.
None of the loud "rapiness", just a nice mellow rumble with a little more presence (say goodbye to the raspberry sound).
Find the longest one you can (it'll be around 3.5-4 feet long) and run the rest of the exhaust all the way out the back (more length = nicer, mellower rumble).
Attach all of that to a truck exhaust manifold, which will allow you to use 2 1/4" exhaust pipe, instead of 2", then drop in a marine cam (RH).
Stock driveability and you should realize about 25-30 HP gain.
Stock 2-bbl will aid power a little and will also decrease the chances of burning the vales in cylinders 1& 6.
You could use a late 250 truck head, but you'll most likely loose some compression, due to the difference in bore size.
If it were me, I'd look into modifying the stock manifold to seat the 2G, but it might be easier to simply use an aftermarket manifold.
Replacing points with stock HEI helps all the way around, too.
In the end, the total hop-up should bring HP up from 85 to around the 120 the engine was originall listed at, and it'll still be a smooth cruz'r.

Sounds like a nice ride. Would like to see a pic.

    Terry,

    Much way sweetness.
I bet that truck will really be a winner when you're done with it.
That engine sounds like its beggin' for a 'vette cam.
I know Clifford used to make 'em. Maybe you can have the local cam grinder make one for you, too.

How 'bout a 65 Rambler Classic 660 4 door?Has a 6 salamander with an automatic, prepping for paint at the moment. Should be pretty cool, with new paint, original white wheels and hub caps, dragging on the ground maybe? Seems like as time goes on we better be saving all the old iron we can,lot of it's going to the crusher. Even 6 bangers and 4 doors can be cool, right?
