Not in my hot rod but my 54. 235 with 3 carbs on a McGurk intake milled head, Balanced rotating assembly, and the biggest cam i could get. All it needs is a wayne head and its done.

302 GMC, ported head, big valves, 3 two barrel weber carbs, bored .125 over, crane custom grind cam, muncie 4 speed. All going in the 36 Chev. coupe -- or maybe the 32 Chev. coupe that I'm trying to buy?

Question for the KC guys. In the late 50's there was a car running the drags called 6-Pack-To-Go. Ran a GMC 6. Beat alot of V8's in it's day. Anyone remember the car, or even better, have any photos?

I'm going to email Don Cain and Roger Williamson in KC and see if they can remember the car your speaking of.
I'll let you know if I hear anything.

I've got a '57 235 in my '54 Chevy. It's got two Rochesters on a Nicson intake, Fenton headers and a heat plate for the intake. It has a Saginaw 4-speed of unknown origin and a '57 Chevy 3:73 rear end.
I drove it to Vegas and back and used 1/2 quart of oil.
I love that engine, it makes enough power to keep up with modern traffic, but it sure would be better with an S-10 OD tranny.

The first part I bought for my RPU project was a 292 C.I. inline Chevy motor. I already have an Offy 3 single-barrel manifold, and a Mallory dual-point distributor (that I plan to convert to HEI) for it.

Drivetrain includes a Weber aluminum flywheel (covered by and ANSEN cast-iron "scattershield" bellhousing), a Saginaw 4-speed (with vintage Mr. Gasket shifter), and a '65 Pontiac posi rear end with big 11" brakes.

The 292 will get all lightweight components, a complete balance job,
and a ton of headwork (just like with the Chevy V-8s, that's were the "magic" is).

If you don't think these things will run hard, your just flat wrong. You don't get the rpms like with a V-8, but there's torque to spare (here's some trivia - the 292 Chevy motor has the longest rods of any GM engine, including the mighty 454!) If you pay attention to gearing, the sixes will kick ass! Anyone remember Joe William's altered roadster (Springfield, MO) that held the AHRA class record back in the late 60's? How about Kay Sissel's NHRA E-altered and twin-inline dragster (which, BTW, is still running and winning!).

Back in '68, I had a '37 Chevy (gasser-style) coupe with a 292 motor built by the same guy who did Joe's. Unfortunately, I sold the car before ever racing it (stooopid!!). Anyway, it had a Dos Palmos 3 two-barrel intake set-up that was really trick. I'd love to find one, but they are VERY rare. Anyone happen to know where one could be found? I'm also looking for a cast-aluminum valve cover (and cast side-covers) from a Mercury inboard motor (actually a 292 Chevy).

Mine, you've seen it here before...

'50 Plymouth 218 block bored .030" over, 230 crank and rods, rv cam, mini HEI, Edgy 9:1 compression finned head, Edmunds water heated dual intake with a pair of Holley 5200 carbs, Langdon's tube headers with HPC coating, Obrien Truckers finned goodies, Flatattack oil filter.

running the original flathead 6 in my '49 ford. It runs great even after sitting since '68.

  20. 265 cube sidevalve six outa a '55 Dodge (big truck, not a pick-up)

Twin carbs, dual exhaust (factory Fargo truck set-up)

Accel 300+ ignition, twin remote oil filters and full flow filtration system. Oil cooler (w/ Thermostat so the oil doesn't run too cold) Generator (6 volt) AND alternator (for the cb, radar detector and pre-luber)

Gets about twenty or so mpg haulin' around a two ton car with 4.30 gears and a '54 Plymouth overdrive.

  22. If anyone wants one of these big Chrysler sixes, 265 cu. in. I got one, rebuilt with low low hours on it. PM me if interested.......

  23. I've never seen a sweeter looking Plymouth motor.

Wish I still had my inline!

  24. The Bisquits got a 235, but that ain't no hot rod... [IMG]

Now that I got a cool garage, I can start working on the bucket, that'll have a Donzies old 216. Does that count? [IMG]

AS long as it is COOL, it counts!

  26. I ran a 218 flat 6 motor in my '48 Plym for about 12 years. dual carbs, Edmunds head, Isky cam, split exh. and 18" glass packs. 20+ MPG and 19 sec. E.T. at LACR. got a 200 six for my '63 Ranchero, header, Isky 262 cam and lots a head work. Got Carps lookin for a Aussie 250 Ford head for my '71 Maverick. It's fun to pull a whole shot on a v8 guy and then lift your hood and see him start to babble about fixin his 8. Man they come up with excuses why a 6 will move on an 8.

Running a Straight Six 223 in the 54 Ford. I love it, but I have all the parts to drop in a Y-Block. Gotta love a hot rod that sounds like a sewing machine!

Well, I am putting a Ford 300" or maybe a 240 into a 41 Chevy PU. The same motor (300" 4 bbl headers) got 17 MPG in an 84 4X4, so I figger it'll do better in a 3000 lb pickup.

  29. My hot rod has a V8 but my mild kustom has a baby stovebolt six! Does that count?

And yeah, I'm lookin out fer a trick Aussie Ford six head for HotRod Bob to tease SBC owners with.
