I just got mine done and drove it to the exhaust shop at 8:00 this AM with open headers. Sounds great. 250cid with offy intake, stovebolt headers and a Holley 390. Cant wait to fine tune it and drive the piss out of it.

We race straight 6's in the Canadian Vintage Modifieds ashphault stock cars. See rules link:

    http://www.vintagemods.com/rule_book.html

Many people use a 250 block and 194 head combination. I have seen compression ratios of 12.9:1. These guys run 110 Octane fuel. Most people use crossover headers but some have found a 5-10% hp increase with pipes down the driver side door. Most have hp in the upper 300's.

I use a 2 BBL Holley 650, Clifford intake, 250 block, 250 head, 7¼" triple disc hydraulic clutch, MSD ignition, custom 8 qt. deep sump pan, custom headers.

    They sound awesome!

Running a 235 chevy 6 with 5-speed, 7:50X17's in the rear on a 37" chevy PU. SS dual carb. intake, with 4" exhaust turn out in front of drivers door. Haven't completely finished it yet to clock road mileage. This weekend it should be on the road. Planning on going to B'ville with it!

Not in mine. I'm going to running a little 289 SBF, but I love to see straight 6's in rods. My neice's 20 something hubby is planning on using a Chevy 250 in his. He's promised pics soon. I'll post 'em when I get 'em.

I am wanting to get a Falcon, Ranchero or Comet. I'm actually looking for one with the 170/200 6 in it. Seeing all these sixes is making me regret getting the 350 I just got.

I know it's a belly button engine but I suppose it will serve its purpose in my 49 Merc. It has a 73 Nova clip on it... yeah it's enough reason to put a chebby in it yeah... that's why I did it..

On a serious note though I am wondering what speed parts are available for the 170/200 engines. I'm thinking about putting one in my 30 A coupe. The stretched wheel base will be a smooth ride and look wicked with a six in it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to hop up one of these sixes I'm talking about?? I'd appreciate any help ya'll can give me.

I've read this thread every night for weeks, You guys have really got me fired up on these old 6 bangers! I recently traded(work for parts) and have a complete running 39 Chevy 1/2 ton P/U Chassis. It is the org engine and trans, Motor sounds good!!needs a little carb work. What displacement would this engine possibly be .. 216? and lastly is it worth pursuing, many perf parts available? Thanks Guys!

  19. I wanted to add more people are getting into the 10s on fordsix.com. People are just now starting to experiment with the new aluminum head www.classicinlines.com is selling.

Yes, I know V8s are cheaper and easier to get into the 10s…

It's note really a Hot Rod, but my Comet runs a 200 ford. It's a step up from the stock 144 at least.

Referenced to the pic of my twin-H Hudson motor above:
The engine paint is Dupli-color DE1604 Universal Gold. I always
thought the headers like the cyl. head were Clifford
    http://www.cliffordperformance.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=CP&Category_Code=H8
but the ones in the catalog sure look a lot shorter than mine
so I'm not positive. Might try asking on the Hudson forum
    http://www.classiccar.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13

    Hope that helps. :)

    Glen -

Well, I guess this post is never gonna go away (LOL), so I'll add these shots of a bitchin' little blown 292 Chevy-powered roadster from last year's HAMB drags.

I about pissed my pants when I saw this motor. Talked with the owner and his son for a few minutes in the host motel parking lot, but didn't ever connect with him again. We were supposed to meet at the track (he was gonna hook me up with a MerCrusier cast valve cover, like the one on his motor), but that didn't work out - so I don't have a lot of details. Didn't even get to hear it run. About all I know for sure is that he built his own intake manifold - and figured out the blower drive system on his own.

Anyways - a very cool six-banger, with some nice work done to it.

P.S. If anyone recognizes this car and can put me in touch with the owner, I'd very much appreciate it.

My buddy has a 302 GMC in his 50 Chevy fastback, with a few goodies packed inside. He's looking for a Waynes 12-port head if any of you have one available.
