  10. You can PM me, as well, used to work for both of the V*******n Magazines, from 1997-2005. I know SoCal Tex can probably answer most of the questions, too, he's a real accomplished V*******n builder.

It seems there are a lot of people here with knowledge about VWs. I also know a thing or two about them. Had a couple featured in the mags. If I can help in any way feel free to PM me. It might take a few days to respond though, i'm taking a road trip to TX to pick up a new project--- a 32 sedan. I will post pics when I get back.

yeah i gotta agree with that...

with that said my new '63 should be making it's way from new mexico to north carolina next week. stoked. on the beam to all of you guys kcw was doing hoodride beams for $300. the are cut original german beams with all the torsions and tie rods and everything narrowed. by the time you buy and do all the stuff yourself your gonna have not far from that in it. and that price is outrght no core charge. there has been a recent staffing change at kcw and i don't know if the hoodride beams will still be available when the supply they have is gone. probably not. the folks who left are rumored to be starting to do them still but nothing is in stone yet. i will advise -4" or more go ahead and lose the shock towers as they will only make the ride worse. really i'd say -3" but it a close call. if you do leave the towers use worn out old oil filled shocks not new lowered shocks as it will be stiff as a board with them. -4"/-5" is the way to go. my new car has a -5" beam on it , but still needs dropped spindles as it's sitting with the adjusters all the way down and still isn't low enough.
Harrison and i have been communicating about vw's for the last few weeks. they are an old love affair for me that i can't ignore any more. sold the xs650 and hopefully someone will give me enough for the '55 plymouth to buy a set of Randar's Rader repops for the '63. if not there will be a set on there by spring anyhow.
i know the boss here doesn't dig vw's but there are ALOT of folks here that do. ALOT. this new car makes my 30th vw. how could you not like such a simple yet udderly cool car. if a slammed to hell bug can stir a few thinking fellar ideas for you then you ain't livin'. and for most people that don't like them all it takes is a good drive in one to see how much fun they are to change their minds. I love them. always have always will. on an unrelated note my wifes New Beetle got crunched pretty good this week. it hurt...ken....

Drove this VW bus around for about 5 years before the DMV kicked me off the road. Pic's show it being taken to the crusher. Take a look at the 51' Ford also going to be crushed.
