  2. I've been thinking about buying a Bug ever since gas prices went through the roof. I figure they are the only economy car that is cheap and easy to work on, but still kool enough to drive every day and not be a modern plastic ricer type car. Funny thing is how the prices on them have really started to go up. My big dilemma is that I'd have to give up my truck to get one and I'm not really sure if I'm ready to part with it..........E

i can hardly belive that i'm gonna do some positive input on an vw thread
but i often play in my head when i see an vw convert how it would look like to graft on an ordinary vw steel roof to make it a hardtop.
wonder why they never made some...

nah now i'm off to plan to build my 1928 pickup..

  12. Ryan, sorry, but since this time everyone is posting photos of their VW-

    1957 sunroof
    Real EMPI Rader wheels
2017cc with the heads from hell, MSD, IDA's, blah blah blah
Front disc brakes and lotsa other shit.
ceramic coated exhaust (if it rained 80-100 inches a year where you lived, you'd want to protect the exhaust, too...)
I could go on and on, but I gotta get that 26 Tudor apart, so I gotta get my butt out in the garage.
We probably better return to the regularly scheduled programming pretty soon....

So TX Rat is the infamous Shane....
I met you right before Ennis at the Ice Cream place with Boomhower...
I'm not Dean, RK, or Bruce, so that should narrow it down.. 8=)
Yeah, mine has a 2 inch narrowed beam, you can get away with more on the later, ball-joint front ends, but 2 inches is the practical limit for an earlier car, unless you want to lose the shock towers, and start doing hammertime bodywork...

here is a pretty good tech from a site i run on how one guy from the UK did it. with shock mounts and no body mods. it is just one way to go about it. most people who do them in the states are not running shocks on the front.

feel free to pm me, i have done a bunch of link pin narrowed beams.

    It might...

I could post pics of the VWs I've owned, but I wont, because I don't see how that would help the next guy that has a TECH question about bugs that he needs a answer too...

I've had three of the noisy smelly POS's.
A '61 I bought in '67 and painted that "new" metallic cordovan brown that was exclusive to Buick Rivieras that year, (pictured,) then a blue '67 with a Porsche 914 engine, Ex got it, then a faded red '62 that I hated looking at the red dash in, so I sold it and bought a '65 Sunbeam Alpine.
Alpiine was a great road/highway car, but then I got a '55 Olds Super 88.
    This was all by 1976.

I have a 72 Super. I chose my HAMB name based on the only car I own that is not a Saturn.

Well, well. were now playing true confessions. Im gonna fess up. I was ween'd on the dam'n things , but i had to build the first one from basically the ground up. (it was a baja and i wanted a street killer" Iv had a whole lot of them, but old American iron sandwiched between them all as well. Iv got a 56 Oval waiting for some Old school touches on down the line. There, iv confessed . They always looked like miny coupes to me anyway.

FYI. i like em too. my very frist car (when i was 13) was a 66 Beetle. i've only owned a couple since (a 61 rag top that was VERY rusty and i parted out and a 64 that i fixed up a little while back). i'm looking for an oval or even a split to cut up soon. i want a solid one and will travel to get it if need be. i've got all kinds of wacky ideas. i might even have to build 2 just to use half of the ideas. i may concider a 64 or earlier aswell. just putting a "Bug" (so to speak :D ) in you VW guys ears.
don't forget, VWs ARE traditional. i have Hot Rod mags from the early 60s to prove it. many were used as V8 powered and VW powered gassers and i have a few early Hot Rod articles on how to hop up VW motors and do other neat stuff to these little cars. i'm NOT a VW nut, i'm just a car nut in general. i'm not trying to start anything and i only mention the articles so my fellow HAMB V-dubbers are aware of the hot rod heritage of the VW. if you don't like them then you obviously only opened this thread to start some shit and the HAMB does'nt need people like that. ...now i need to get off my lazy ass and go work on my 47 Chevy.

    SEACREST OUT!! :D

  27. And here I've been trying so hard to hide it from everybody here all these years...

Ok, ok... I'll fess up. I got a couple too...

    Oh wait...
