who has a y-block in their car

Im using a 55 Mercury 292

 

My next 32 project will have a 292 I just got. Sitting in the garage begging to be built!

 

I've got the factory 272 in my '55 Club Sedan and love it!

 

Just picked up a 61 Unibody pickup with the stock 292 in her. With 108k she seems as strong as ever. This is my first Y block as well.

 

I've got a 292 in my daily driven 58. Changed out the old exhaust manfolds for ramhorns with a pair of porters, along with changing over to a B 4 bbl manifold that I match ported. The exhaust note is the best part, especialy when it's spinning high and people look in shock as an old truck passes them at full bore! Can't beat a yblock for sound or that great torque!

 

Yeah, my dad's roadster has got a pretty good looking 292 in it for power, as does my '54 ford. We've got a couple extra ones lying around to be built when time and money allow.

I have a 57 Ranch Wagon with a 312 and 55k original miles. The original opwners blew a head gasket and drove it 50,+-, miles.Factory air and class 3 trailer hitch. No radio, power steering or power brakes. I rebuilt it in the early 90's and its still waiting to get on the road. Kids, Life Other cars. Thank goodness for dry climates.

 

I've got 3, 57 F100, and 2-61 Uni's all Yblock powered. No complaints a very good stock motor for my stuff. Check out cjcool's website, he has a great yblock page on it along with trucks as well. www.cjcool.com

I've got another two in various stages of disassembly... hopefully I can get to them soon.

 

Those belts have been around for a long time! Its just a different brand of belt thats all.

 

If you get a chance, take a run up to Fowlerville on Thursday evenings (weather permitting) around 5:00 p.m. for our little town cruise'n chat. (pm me for location etc. if interested).

My '56 Fairlane has a '55 Mercury 292 in it, and John (streetdreams) is usually there too - he built it for me. Lots of Y-block knowledge can be gained first-hand.

I put NOS Belond headers on my Fairlane, with dual Porter steelpack mufflers. Yeah, it sounds great.

I have a 272 just rebuilt for my 55 Club Sedan. Installation is on its way.

 

368 Lincoln Y-Block still runnin' strong.

 

Here's mine in my 58 F-100.. It's been sitting for 12 or so years... Plus I have 3 other Y's out in my shop in various stages of dis-assembly.. The red block is going in my 58 when i get it done.. It's bored out to 3.83 and will have lightend high ratio rockers with some Masterfully (pun totally intended) rebuilt heads by none other than Tim McMaster (mctim64).. Any one in the central to northern California area need work done on a Y look him up.. He works wonders on them.

I'm considering a y-block for my '34 five window. Does anyone know someone familiar with this swap? I'd like to get an idea of whats involved before I jump into it.

I wish I could build the 292 quicker but I have to paint my 66 F250 work truck first since its scattered all over the garage.

I'm runnin a 292 with G heads in my 54 with another one waiting for a new project to get dropped in... love the sound of them!!

same here. And as stated, NOTHING sounds like a Y!

 

Would Love to have that shop truck for a hauler project, looks in pretty good shape.

I have two Y-Blocks. The first is a Marine Y-Block complete from the air cleaners to the aluminum oil pan ! It will be installed in my '31 "A" Coupe on a Bleed Acehole frame. The second is a 272 out of a '55 COE that will be dressed up (3 Deuces , T-Bird valve covers in my '41 Fordor. Both are in the build process.

 

I am glad I found this thread... I have a 54 f100 and am not sure if its a 292 or 312... At one point or another every eng combo has been in that truck. BBF to a SBC... My Grandpa (gave me the truck when he died) thought it was a Merc that was down it but never got around to looking it up..

I was thinking of pulling it and going with a 351 or 390 but with all the love for this eng I think I will dig deep and build what I have.

 

Started reading this thread as I found some parts yesterday for a y-block.Guess I better go get one.
