Technical Who has the capability of narrowing connecting rods?

    I don't think I would want to face it .060 on a side on the belt. I think that if I wanted to do this I would grab a piece of aluminum bar stock about 3/4 or an inch bigger than the rod jurnol, I would turn it to around .005 larger than the rod ID. And short enough to leave me room to chamfer the bore after I faced off the material. I would have a nice flat face to seat the rod on when I set it up and I don't think the out of balance would be a problum. I would use a Woodruf key cutter or just a jewelers file for the locating tang. I have some Pontiac rods here that I might practice on before I gut on a customers part.

    Mount a plug on a faceplate instead of using a Chuck, so the rods slip on it.......and as you suggested, the plug needs to be short enough to let you cut the chamfer. After any narrowing is done, all rods do need to be rebalanced.
