I always wanted a rumble seat . One was in my 32 5w , traveling with my daughter Danyelle we have to carry a lot of extras for her well I took the cushions out and loaded it up . On the way back from Stray cat pulled over to get something out and the luggage had moved back and I couldn't open the trunk . The next week I changed it to a regular trunk . But I still love seeing people in them !
I do !!, and it's staying, came that way from the factory in 1929 and going to keep it that way. Get a Dodge lots of room. It's going to get a 2 to 3" chop. 1929 dodge Coupe, with rummble seat and golf club door. Top of the line back in 29 for the dodge. Choff
Thanks for the replies! Keep 'em coming!! Yeah, I'm looking to see how the hinges work and mount. I have nothing there. I think the sheet metal can just be flat, it's just folding the edges, making a tubing framework, etc. I've been trying to find something already or halfway done but no luck yet. After reading the replies so far, I still wanna do the rumble seat but I can see where it would be a pain. But it's just me, so I don't need too much room. Dave
I searched for a r/s coupe just so I could take the grandkids around the block. The seat cushion comes out real easy for storage, the batt., fire ext., air pump and tools. My coupe has a glide seat so there is no partition behind the seat so fold the seat forward and access to the foot area is good. Also remove the seat cushion and there is storage under the front seat to. There are tons of pros and cons, I agree with everyone on the part that these aren't freeway cars with people in the back especially my grand kids. But we go around the block all the time in my other old cars and they love it plus we have tons of back roads. I think there is more to putting in a rumble seat lid though, the lip has to be removed where the bottom of the lid goes into the trunk area when you open it, and there has to be a place for the rain to go besides filling the trunk up. I'll take some pics so you know what I mean. good luck
I've had my '37 Chevy RS coupe for 20+ years and haven't had a problem with it, although with the amount if air comming over the top and into the occupant's face, they're really not practical for much over 30-35 mph, IMO. For long trips, it takes about 5 minutes to remove the seat bottom & back, to carry suitcases, tools, etc. in it. It's a little inconvenient to have to lift stuff over the sides, but I'm 65 years old and don't have any issues with doing so. If you want perfect comfort, go buy a 2012 (insert desired car here) !
