Event Coverage Who is going to start the buzz for 2024 AutoRama?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by daylatedollarshort, Feb 22, 2024.

  1. We haven’t finished the discussions from the roadster show and the 71st Detroit AutoRama will be on us in just over a week. This years poster promises the great eight and AMBR, a tribute to Evel Kenievel, something called the preservation award, not sure if that is new this year, and a master builder award for mostly home built cars. As a sign of the times, mobility scooter rental is on the bottom of the on line flier. Health, weather, and border guards permitting I hope to be in the basement on Friday. That is the short day, but if we stay till closing it’s less than 3 bucks an hour for some much awaited entertainment, eye candy and people watching. If it is on your bucket list hopefully this is your year.

  2. Well, I just saw the Evel Knievel tribute last weekend but also didn’t spend any time looking at it since I had two kids and my grandson with me. So, I’m looking forward to checking that out more. I am mainly excited about hanging out with my brother for the weekend, hopefully getting to meet several HAMBers that I haven’t ever met in person, and just having a relaxing weekend. This will be the first time I have been to Autorama in over 30 years. I have had privilege to see many of last years AMBR cars at shows over the year but haven’t had chance to check out any of the ones from this year yet. Oh, and I am also excited to check out the Uncertain T. If anyone sees the car in the pic below which is my brothers, that may likely be where I am hanging out. Would love to meet some more of you all.

I know Matt, sure like his Buick. I’ll be there Thursday for set up, and either Friday or Saturday.

I'm planning to be there Friday. I think @Rickybop is trying to make it then, too. We may have to take a walking trip over to Lafayette Coney Island.

Met a few of the HAMB guys @ the Single Finger display in the basement a couple of years ago. Anyone want to do something like that again?

  5. I also can't wait to see the @57JoeFoMoPar 61 Olds too and meet him in person as well.

Likewise! Looking forward to meeting up! Just putting the finishing touches on the car this evening and we should be good to go.

Detroit is always my favorite show of the year. Just a very special aura about the show that on one hand is very modern, but on the other hand, is also steeped in tradition. I will say that no other show I've been to yet humbles me and inspires me the way the Detroit Autorama does. I think this is my 16th consecutive year attending and every year I get home with big plans and ideas for what's next.

The magnificent renaissance the surrounding area has undergone in recent years only adds to the pleasure of the trip. Having a beer and burger at Grand Trunk, breakfast at the Dime Store, or dinner at any of the many great new spots... its a great weekend. And last year I was able to bring my wife and daughter, who's now 5 and able to actually enjoy the trip. In fact, all year she's been talking about going back. Last year we got to skate on the outdoor rink at Campus Martius Park on Woodward Ave, and I even got to watch my Rangers get clobbered by the Red Wings.

More than anything though, after going to the show all these years, I mainly look forward to seeing my friends I don't get to see often enough.

    Hey @GearheadsQCE
    Hi-di-ho, neighbors!

I really wanna go and see you guys and all the cool cars and maybe take a walk over to Coney Island.

Thing is, turns out that they've got me scheduled for a procedure (ablation) on the 27th of this month. So it's a question whether I'm going to be up to it.

    I'm hopin'.
    If I can, I will.
    I'll let you know.

Ablation doesn't sound like a walk in the park. Depends on what they're ablating and where. You get well, and I'll buy your coney.

Historically, the HAMB meet up has been by the Singlefinger Speed Shop display. Noon on Friday?

    That sounds good.

  15. I have to offload a scooter, get tickets and go park, then grab some pictures before the basement fills up, so I will be daylatedollarshort.

The Wife and I will be there Friday. We'll see what we can cover and then decide about Saturday. Probably won't be in the basement at noon but we'll try and look you guys up

    Well... poo-poo.
Can't make it. Still moving too slow. Probably should rest up and work on my project anyway instead of looking at everybody else's.
    Have fun. Take pictures.
