  6. Promoters on the radio said they were a little ahead over last year on entries for the show, even with the economy such as it is. Should still be a good time for all -

I plan on going thursday night to pickup my papers at the hotel. Drivin the truck up friday morning for the round up. I'll be driving my truck, and i have a friend going in his '28. If anyone wants to ride out with us were leaving the Utica/Rome area hopefully around 10-11, and taking mostly all backroads.

What exactly is going on at the hotel thursday? Bunch of drunk car nuts hanging out in the parking lot bench racing? Sounds like a good time.

[ Heard something about a "Old School" area with some bands and some other stuff going on, I think it's on Friday only and I don't know where]

TOut Front of The "Center of Progress Building" in the East side of the fairgrounds is where the "Old Skool" area is going to be. Friday is the big "Old Skool" gathering and i think there is a grounds cruise.

  18. Anyone coming who's new and wants to learn their way around, in addition to the Right Coast site I believe you can find maps of the grounds on the New York State Fair websites too.

Swap meet area is behind the Horticulture building, near the first turn of the race track.

Time is coming up quick................damb I am trying to finish a piece of art to bring to the show but I don't know if I will be able to

  22. We're not going to make it this year due to other obligations, but have been to 6 of them. Was there last year, and I have a few suggestions for those who haven't been.

1- Cooler, good walking shoes and sunscreen. Somewhere between 6000 to 7000 cars ( past years anyways) losts of walking! Bringing your own water will save you the $3.00 - 12oz. they get there.

2- Friday and Saturday are the busiest, Sunday still has alot of cars but alot of them leave due to long trips and work on Monday.

3- Blatent stupidity is NOT tolerated. Just ask any of the Friday and Saturday night guys doing burnouts on the streets who got their cars impounded. NO LIE ! We cruised up and down 7th North street ( cool cruise spot - 4 lane with thousands of spectaors watching the cars go up and back from the host hotel) and saw tons of cops pulling cars over and having them flatbedded to impound! The cops are not friendly, major revenue builder for the city. They don't let you off because your part of the $11 million dollar boost to the economy. Erie Blvd. is also a hot spot, but they ( the cops ) actually shut Erie blvd down one year which upset all the restaurant owners ( many food joints on Erie Blvd.)

4- Sweet Inspiratons is a ice cream - hamburger joint that has a cruise- in with live bands one of those two nights - thats a good time as well. Host hotel gets alot of attention, but unless you are staying there, you can't even get in the parking lot at night. Gaurds at the entrance

5- $ It is a great time! But usually is Hot and sticky - dress cool. If it's not hot - it is raining - bring an umbrella as well. ( good to block the sun too)

6- Get there early Saturday morning if you want a good spot to park, it is the busiest of all, you don't want to be stuck in the back parking lot where it is almost unbearable on that hot pavement. Even though the gates don't open until 7:00am I used to get there before 6:00, and there were already over 100 cars in line. Unless you leave your car on the grounds, you can not save your spots. Rumor has it security will take down any attempts to save spots for the next day, ( I don't know how true that is since I've seen folks leave their easy-up tents and they were still there the next day.

7-For your wifes sake park close to bathrooms - trust me here!

8- Bring money! neat stuff for sale - last year alot of great deals! Lots of cars for sale - Even some of the vendors are willing to haggle prices. Food is usually good and not too overpriced.

9- check out the buildings - there is alot of neat stuff that most people miss because it was in one of the buildings. model car show. pinstriping events, RC racing, Cleaner bathrooms, food, etc. plus it will get you out of the sun for a bit.;)

10- They usually have nightly entertainment at the grounds (to try to keep more people there instead of going downtown ) like organised burnout competition, flame throwing competitions, fireworks. During the day, I believe they might even have something going on for little kids too, as well as for the women who have had enough of "looking at old cars" Spa type stuff, and free buss shuttles to the carrousel mall.

All in all it is a huge event, If you plan for it, it is even better. sorry this is so long, but hope it helps. - Breeze

  24. Hey guys, for those of you who want to do a little HAMB meet and greet, we usually meet by the train behind the horticulture building (building 9)near the car corral/flea market around 11am on saturday. Last year it kind of fell apart but didn't seem like a lot of HAMBers were attending the show. Im 5'3", fat, and ugly and will have my dark blue with yellow lettering HAMB shirt on!!! Enjoy the weekend!

  25. I'm leaving at 6 in the moring, see you there.

Camping was mentioned for next year instead of paying the stupid rates for a hotel..if we can all get situated with campers etc, then i'm pretty sure we will be there next year..if not, who knows.
    Have fun!
