Found this today lets see if you know who this guy is and what kind of car is he standing on ??? Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Ansel Adams? I saw a do***entary about him once. The guy asked how many images it took to get the image he wanted. He looked at the guy kind of funny. He had just shown the interviewer all the equipment that he used, large view cameras, etc, and said One.
You are correct .. Found his latest book today @ B&N I figured it would take at least 10 tries ... before some on got it
I'll second the Ansel Adams post. Love his work. Damn Al, have you forgotten just how well rounded and informed some of us are?
It's KIRK! Seriously... have you guys never seen a picture of a young Ansel Adams? Doppleganger if there ever was one.
I'm late to the game, but as soon as the pic popped up I said in my head: That's Ansel Adams on a Pontiac.
Dang I was to late I knew this one! That guy can take pics 100 times cooler than the ones I take and his equiptment is so old school. Thats my photography role model right there!
No, but holy cannoli, she had a br*** set on her. I learned about her at MoMA a while back. There's a photo of her perched on one of the eagles (at least I think it's an eagle) on the Chrysler building. You wouldn't catch me out there vying for a shot. I'll spill it... the photo was taken by Virginia Best (Adams). She captured some amazing images, as well. That one of Ansel (err, Kirk!) is great.
Thanks Al. Great shot of my favorite male photogrpaher, after KIRK! But hands down my all time favorite photographer, mentioned before. Margret Bourke White.
I know those big old bulky wonderful cameras well. Here's me, in 1987, with my trusty 1950 Eastman Kodak 8X10 inch negative "view camera". It's hard to beat a negative that is 80 square inches for quality and clarity. I used those monsters for 40 years and still have a Cirkut camera made in 1915 that takes a 8" X 36" negative with gears that are used as a shutter speed.. What a wonderful career I had with photography...It all started with that first photo that I shot at Lions Drag Strip in 1961 when I was 10... We all enjoyed studying Adams work when I was in film school in the early 1970's. He was mostly known to us as a master in the darkroom, making each photo perfect....a real legend, always will be...
