I recently got my 1950 Poncho back. I sold it and after seven long years I got the chance to buy it back. It was a state away and this is how I found her. Sent from my DROID RAZR using H.A.M.B. mobile app
And now another project! 36 pontiwilly, 3/w coupe w/ willys fiberglass flip front end, dana 60 rear axle, straight front axle, complete fabed new frame w/ 14" engine set back. Will get 421 Pontiac engine with 2 4 barrels and a 4 speed-----should be FUN!
I love Pontiacs. I have a 56 Pontiac convertible frame that I am plan on clipping with a 69 Firebird subframe in the near future. I will be slipping it under a 57 Pontiac convertible.
Those rear springs are something else, never seen a set like that. Is that a 124" wheelbase starchief based frame? I already got my frame done but a 122" boxed convertible frame would be nice to have.
You guys are really clever.... I got this frame from a car that was in a barn fire! The frame seems sound but the rest of it is basically junk! I am only planning on using the frame. The frame is boxed and 124in wheel base. I checked most of the measurements against frame drawings I found on the internet - it all checks out. Anything else I should look for? Please let me know. I am planning on a complete deconstruction soon and soda blast and, if I have to, take it to a frame shop for straightening.
Just back on the road 2 weeks ago. Drives great with V8 and IFS. Can go a bit lower still which is the plan, even another inch would be cool. 3 options - leave it stock looking, go mild custom which was the original idea or the one I'm leaning towards lately which is mildly down the bomb path; skirts, visor, vent shades. Generally more of a mild custom fan usually but these things look a bit over accessorised from factory anyway and (with exceptions of course) the custom ones I've seen that shave stuff but retain the waterfalls look a little lost in the middle. So, decisions to be made. On every option I'd be keen to paint it black though but that's a fair way off!
Nice looking car - for mod's check out this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220962&goto=newpost
There's a smorgasbord of ideas in there, just take a little of this and a little of that to suit your taste!
I don't feel so bad now knowing I am not the only one who has a pallet of cylinder heads and manifolds ... ( but most of mine are non desirable casting numbers )
Nah, you're not the only one. I have a pallet covered with 389, 400, and 428 iron. Most of which I got for free in exchange for machine work. Including a virgin 400 block & heads. Oh .... I am working on a '69 GTO. Bought in 1986 for $500.
Just finished the paint. Took the car back to the original red and decided to paint the top black. A little detailing and clean up and I should be ready for summer.
Lookin' good, all you need now is a foxtail hangin off the aerial and your ready to cruise. The waterfall treatment looks as well.
Got my new cam in and engine back together, solid flat tappet 263/271 @.050, .610 lift and 4200 stall converter. Should be up and running in a few week hopefully. Just need to shed some weight and get in the 10's with this thing.
I'm building a Pontiac engine. It's a 326 out of a 67 LeMans. Basically stock with a .040 overbore, Edelbrock P4B intake, 600 Holley, Cal Custom valve covers, & air cleaner, and headers. However, it's going in a 59 GMC 1/2 ton. Also, I'm using a narrowed 59 Pontiac rear axel with Moser axel shafts in the truck, with a Muncie 4 speed.
1950 chieftain with a sbc I picked up before the winter been doing some motor work and got hood springs no I just gotta figure out how to put em on with out killing me or the car
Nice ..... my 50 should be going under the knife or should I say Sawzall and zip cutter this month or next to do the floors and rockers . then the real fun begins . trying to rebuild systems that were taken out of the car ( brakes , electrical , interior ) still building the pile of parts . still having a hard time choosing paint colors , either black rose , or black cherry . or the original warwick over cavalier grey or flopped .
if you have a copy of the shop manual it shows the tool to install them . and its foot operated . page 11-6 just have to figure out the distances
