I've been looking at goodrich, goodyear, michellin web sites even coker and the pickings are very slim. radial TAs come in 155... michellin carries 145, goodyear no go, tire rack came up with a continental something. Need help!!! I'm getting some rocket wheels 4.5 wide and posted what tire would go best but I don't seem to find the 165. Thanks Rick.....
Found several on Coker. I just bought a pair of the Firestone 560's. http://www.cokertire.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=165R15
Rick, I'm not being a smart ass here, but just do a " google " search and you will be amazed. Now, for a actual referal we use the Nankang tire on many of our O/T Pro-Street cars and have great feedback from this tire. One tire I don't recommend is the Cooper, I know that will anger alot of people but sorry, every one that our whole team has ever used was pure garbage, all the best, TR
Hit any of the major VW suppliers and you'll find a wealth of that size. I wouls still go with the 155/80-15 'cause after the last 30 years or so of looking at 165s on 4 1/2" wheels they still look a bit chunky to me. The "traditonal" type tire years ago when the Michelin XZX tire were common was the 155sr 15. Nobody went with with 165s when those were common stock.
165-80-15 shouldn't be very hard to find. It looks like there are plenty to choose from. http://www.epinions.com/Auto_Parts_..._vertical_~all/search_string_~165r80 15 tires
That's the size I found at Discount Tire. I think it's a Khumo. VERY nice tread pattern and I can honestly say my ride is better. I have them on the front of my T. Very pleased.
Kleber's were killer tires , they don't make them anymore... looked like XZX ... but less expense... I have a hard time putting a Nankang or a Khumho on my vintage rides.. Not that they are bad tires. I have Cooper trendsetters on my 35 Ford and 62 Pontiac...
I have an off brand called Nexem on my deuce, Picked them up not long ago for $70 a piece locally. So far they have been pretty good.
There are really only 2 companies left making "off the shelf" 165R15's anymore, Nankang and Kumho. These brands usually cost around $50.00 per tire. There are other "speciality" companies out there like Mickey Thompson and Coker but those are usually over $150.00 per tire. Here is one of those two brands on an O/T wheel....
