I have a friend who builds some very nice rides and he asked me if there was anyone who builds a wheel tub with a rolled edge on the inside cir***ference? In all the preformed wheel tubs it is just sheet stock joined with a Pittsburgh seam in that edge. I'm thinking he's looking for a generic tub that would have to be stamped to achieve a radius around the cir***ference. I included a generic picture of a wheel tub taken off of the interweb to give an idea on what he is after. Any help or suggestions on who would produce such piece are appreciated.
That's a great idea! Sometimes the simplest things are often overlooked. Still going to try to find a generic stamped one but if not available it'd be something to fall back on.
I cut a pair out of a 58 Suburban, to put in my 55 Chevy belair. They repop the inner fenders for fleetside beds, too. http://www.autometaldirect.com/trip...ruck-lhrh-wheelhouse-sold-as-each-p-2713.html although they do flare out too far at the front and back, if you have to use the whole height of it.
Kirk, I`ve made my own for years. Make a Hammerform for the inner half circle, maybe even use a Tank Roll and Shrinker to refine it, then roll the top part of the tub, and do the same work on the inside edge and weld both parts together in the middle of the radius and finish to suit. All the premade tubs seem to be thin for Drag Racing BackHalf jobs, and will Star and Drum. I use 18 Gauge Material so they have strength and don`t Star when hit by Rocks. They also look neat when exposed. I`ve done several sets of these for 53-6 Ford Pickups that are Teardrop Shaped and look neat in the bed. A Shrunk /Stretched Flange for the bottom if you need it, and there it is....(And yes, it`s time consuming and not that easy to do, but you get a really nice result......)
Thanks for all the help! He & I definitely have the skill & equipment just never really gave it much thought!
https://www.millsupply.com/73-chevy-pickup-rear-wheelhouse-507375.php?p=20419 These are pretty universal and big. I just made my own with 90* 3/4" radius on a hammer form. Helps to have 4 hands putting it together. Could easily do 1-1/2" radius but that's a lot of form sanding. Any bigger radius and I'd probably turn 2 at 45 and join them in the radius, but that's more work, less forgiving, and not worthy of a wheel well that's mostly covered. If they will be highly exposed it might be worth it.
Haven't seen those but trailer fenders run about 25.00 each at ranch and home. Still there is that satisfaction of hammering out your own if you have the skills and equipment. I'd be one of the guys at the farm and ranch store buying a fender to cut in two to make two tubs.
