My pops has been looking for a decent steel '34 3 window body for awhile now with no avail, so he's resorting to gl***. Who out there has the best? Wescott's, Down's, etc? Fill me in!

I believe that Wescotts has the most " original " looking. And very good quality.

I met a streetrodder that has his own molds and builds his own here in Ohio........VERY, VERY meticulous.....I was simply blown away.... He builds his own frames....big deal huh, out of sheet steel and welds them on on 4....he build his own 9" housings (all of them)......like I said, quite impressive.....he does it for a living out of his small little shop...

anyway, i know i've really built him up and i don't know a price.....email me

    Correction......Wescott no longer offers a 33 - 34 3 Window in their catalog.

But they do offer a swing out...stock type windshield on their 32 3W. This was a big factor in me considering Wescott.......for a 32 3W body...prior to me finding my steel 32 3W body.

  8. Outlaw....But what do know about "Gl***" bodys:D

  9. i've only messed with a couple gl*** bodies , one being an Outlaw and i thought it was poor quality..that was 15+ years ago , maybe they are different now

IF i was gonna buy a fibergl*** `34 3 window body it would probabilly be Poli-form

I think the Fibergl*** body I was most impressed with was "REDNECK" great finish extreamly strong,..... "Insane demonstrations" and great proportions.

    REDNECK link

I seen a big guy hang on a 34 3/W door like a monkey while his buddy swung him back and forth like he was on a swing,..... he got off the door and not only did the body not move a hair,... but the door closed and latched with a one finger push,..... and the lines were perfect. this is the one I would buy

I think that Redneck makes the best fibergl*** body that money can buy. At car shows the also do a demonstration where they jump up and down on the roof, and stand on the fenders with no damage. Also, thier molds are polyester not fibergl***. This makes for very consistent parts. They use aircraft grade resins and all work is done in house for quality control. The owner of a high profile rod shop once told me that on some gl*** bodies he has to use 1-2 GALLONS of bondo to get them ready for paint. He also said that the last Redneck body he built required a total of one CUP. Redneck also builds the bodies without the floor in them. If you send them your ch***is they will make the floor to fit your frame exactly, without any shimming. They also love to do custom work. You want a special chop, you got it. How about a nice channel job, no problem there either. I highly recommend them. I have one of their '33 sedan bodies.

Thanks for all the responces guys. It sounds to me the Redneck body is the best, hence why they get so much for their bodies. It's good to hear "the guy hanging on the door story". My pops is in a wheelchair and has to hang on the door to transfer himself in. I'll keep you all posted.

    Thanks again,
    Casey

  20. On that note, anyone know of steel repro '33/'34 3W bodies being built? Thought I saw pics somewhere from SEMA of a Model 40 3W in steel. Been waiting for those...

  21. I understand Steve's Auto Restoration in Oregon is building a steel 33/34 roadster body. They also ***emble Brookville 32 roadster bodies.

In the early 80's there was a company that used to advertise in Street Rodder. Their name was Pauls Fibregl*** out of Vermeyer IL. They made a "Kick ***" 33-34 Gl*** body that had so much steel in it that when someone had an interior in their car & slammed the door, It would sound like a steel car!The body came with either stock hinges, hidden hinges, filled roof, ribbed roof, provission for stock windsheild, stock appearing window frames, original style door latches, window regulators, and a killer firewall that looked like it was a steel one that had slight set back not to mention a stock style floor deck lid provission. I owned one from Nov 89 till Nov 93, Best damn gl*** body I ever had and wish that I had it back(and I have owned 3=2 wescott roadsters & this coupe. If I had to do a gl*** body all over again I'd first look for one of those, 2nd would be the PoliForm unit by **** Williams in Watsonville CA. His is very similar to the 1st unit that I described. The one that you really don't want to have your to Dad buy is a Dave Koorey 32-34 versions.I believe that he's in FL. as is Street Beasts (they don't even measure up to be compared) A friend of mine bought a car that had one of those Koorey Bodies & I had to screw with it all the time. It tooks months to get it useable, but I personally wouldn't reccomend one ever!I too have been looking/waiting for someone to come out with a quality 33-34 3W steel body (I thought that I read somewhere that Hot Rods & Horse power were doing a version?) For it to be a quality unit, It would have to come from Brookville, They'll have all of the right stuff but will more than likely be in the $25-30 range gauging on nwhat has transpired from the advent of their Deuce unit-Has anyone taken delivery of one yet?.

N & N Fibergl*** (arkansas) makes a nice body. Floor is already in it, and they use standard dimensions on the frame.

I have one of their 32 bodies.

I don't think this is correct. There are two resins: epoxy and polyester. You still need fibergl*** to build the mold. You can't just use resin.

Most people who work in fibergl*** (aircraft, boats, cars) are using polyester resins now. It allows you to work a large area, and not set-up fast like epoxy.

When I toured the shop,Wayne made a big deal about his molds being polyester. He stated that they do not move with heat like a traditional fibergl*** mold does. He said that most shops don't use these molds as they are very expensive, and very difficult to repair. I'm not an expert on the subject, I'm just repeating what he told me.

Yea, he's just using a bit of slang there. Short for polyester resin/fibergl***. Traditional (60's technique) would be epoxy.

Probably in the last 15 years everyone is using polyester resin. Mostly because Burt Rutan showed everyone how to build airplanes with it, and it is so much easier.

I'm not an expert either. I've only taken the EAA Workshop, and it was educational and fun, but I don't think I'm ready to lay a mold just yet :)

I went through the same dilema a few years ago on my project. Gave up on ever finding a 3 w 33-34 metal body I could afford. Did a lot of looking at gl*** bodies and I think the very best you can buy is Poliform but prices starting at 12 grand they are not cheap. To make a long story short I settled on Antiques & collectables in Buffalo NY. They were in driving distance for me so that saved shipping, they did manual windows, that was a plus. I did install a stock cut down windsheild frame no problem. The body was baked so no shrinkage, most surfaces needed very little filler, lots of hard wood bracing inside, good alignment of panels. I did have to stiffen the floor and firewall/cowl area. I am generaly satisfied with the product and at around 5 to 6 grand depending on options I think it was a good buy.
If you need more info give me a holler
