Whats up guys. Well Im building my 64 Impala wagon and it lays frame. The fame is a "X type so I dont have much room under there as it lays frame. But I need to make a exhaust system.

Anyways, Im looking for the flattest muffler I can find. I only got about 4 inches of clearance of were I can put it. Im fine with running a 2.25 exhaust piping or even thinking of 2".

Magnaflow says theres are 4" thick. Is there something 3" or even less?

    Thanks

SPintech makes some very thin profile mufflers. They use oval section pipe to maintain volume and flow, but reduce thickness. I have no idea how much they cost though.

GD, the issue is that as the diameter of the pipe running through them approaches the case thickness, the sound reducing or absorbing capability reduces. If you want any sort of sound level control from an absorption muffler, you need at least 0.5" thickness around the center tube. So, with 2.5" through pipes, you need around 3.5" which is darn close to the 4" case thickness you mention.

Spin Techs are very loud on powerful engine-equipped cars. But, the company makes some cool shapes and they fit very well.

How long can you use? Seems the old X-frames could hold 18" mufflers or so? You could use really nice sounding 18" straight through mufflers if so.

I'll look through my old Walker books to see what might fit right on.

It is fun to make them and I may be able to get you some parts to do so. Ends up costing more than Chinese made ones but you feel good knowing you created them.

Here is a loud pair I made for a kid's 70 dodge truck.

flowmaster has those hushpower, they might be small enough. If you use a H or X pipe and some rezonators at the end prob give you a nice sound.
