Who or what is CREITZ?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by DoggieBoy Johnson, Dec 2, 2005.

  1. Many years ago, when I was wheeling and dealing with superchargers I had a Creitz 4-71 supercharger intake. I wish that I still had it today.

Had a Creitz aluminum flywheel for early FE Ford, guy I bought it from thought it was Olds, but it was not, so I sold it.

Too Many years ago I bought a 57 300-C, during the planning in the 90's for a resto (back in the 60's it was the tow car for a C-econo dragster) I decided it would be fun to update the factory 2x4 carb setup.
Over the many years chasing parts for the project I got the wiand drop-in 2x4 intake, and 'suckered' (It didnt Take Much) by a swapmeet vender that I had known for years.
He kept off his tables a single Creitz top/bottom Air filter set until I showed up. The ONLY reason I typed 'suckered' is because it took years before a second pair was found.

Ok to answer a question asking here, they used the oval airfilters from the late 50's Chrysler products.
There was a 'tall' filter and more squat filter. The original airfilter housing snorkled over the valvecovers to locate the filter, and a little later on top of the carbs.

As I understood it they originally were made to fit the WCFB/early AFB's with the small airhorn tops.

maybe 12 years ago at the Carlisle Chrysler show/swap a vender had a box full of tops and bottoms.
I Looked them over and all of them looked a bit crude and THE bottoms were for the large airhorn later carbs. AND were missing the reinforcement ribs on the bottom plate. At least both sets I have have reinforced bottom plates. so the box full I saw was Possible knockoffs????

Side knote! :) K&N Did make a replacement oval airfilter for the vintage mopar applications.

Further bit of History: The 1955-1956 AAA (later NASCAR) Chrysler involvement was a major influence for the development of the dry element airfilters we all know today. AND they also developed the low restriction elements for the Chrysler 300 Letter cars.

ERROR correction: in the 70's my 300 was the tow car for the dragster

I knew Moritz made wheels. Wonder if Creitz stamped his name on them to sell for him. IMG_3004.jpeg
