I have owned several Seat 600 and 850 cars. (Spanish licence built Fiats) A couple of Zastava's Too ( Jugoslavian Licence built Fiat 600 ) P/M me if you want to know more.

They brought them over here for a little while,early '80s. Popular with people who came from where ever they were made, and didn't know anything about cars. We got lots of oddball **** here,that Americans won't buy:Lada,Yugo,Skoda,Innocenti.
Sorry man..like I said ....P.O.S.......The only reason I chuckle is that a cousin bought one......that pig was so UGLY.you couldnt tell the back from the front!!!.....THE reason he bought it? .It was cheap and so was he...Lasted a total 9 months.....Never forget it either... A ugly robin egg blue and more nyet design flaws than evil empire itself...... As a teen,I was desperate for a ride....not that desparate. ya dig Komrade?
my g/f's dad grew up in czech. he has told me storys about driving skoda's back n the day. he never had much to say about them. but they were able to fit there whole family (4 kids and moms and pops) in one he said. why dont u say something about how there kicking *** in the world ralley championship for the past two years. pm me if u want me to ask him more about them, im sure i can get him to tell a good story or two i hope.
First off, good luck with your project. Finding a Skoda or SEAT owner here in the US will be tough, but hopefully one of the European HAMBer's will help you out. On a side note, I found it kinda funny that the two brands you asked about are now wholly-owned subsidiaries of another European car company, and a real HAMB favorite: Volkswagen!! See? You went and started yet *another* VW thread, and didn't even realize it!!
I do not (but even worse, I have a broken FIAT as one of my cars...) but 50% of the guys at my office has one, due to a good discount on the VW/Audi made cars (my employer is involved with the import of them to Sweden). The current Skodas and Seats are good cars, built by VW/Audi, sharing the same platform as the VW/Audi. The former SEAT was a Spanish made FIAT and the former Skoda was a joke from Chechoslavovakia. Very far from the cars of today, but Those Skodas were common here in the 70´s but they did rust away faster than anything else. I worked as a tech for Seat a few years back, not a bad car for the money.....re-sale value is real low so good for someone who wants an old snotter to run around in. Front & rear wheel alignment had to be set up by the dealers as they couldn't do it at the factory!!! true as told by Seat UK. The dealer training course was in Ramsgate at a VW owned site that still housed an old VW Beetle ***embly production line....didn't even know that till i saw it. Seat engines were pretty tough with "system Porsche" on the cam cover, built by VW & quality controlled by Porsche....seen them run to 300,000 without a re-build. Still wouldn't own one though Skoda a little lower on the quality (ten years ago) but as stated by the AA (UK version of AAA) the car they least go to on motorway breakdown was a Skoda, maybe they didn't get that far! As of now both brands are of much better quality due to the input from VW.
Skoda also won their cl*** in the RAC Rally more times than any other make....ever! Somewhere like 19 years in a row...cheap cars & tough as hell. Someone even turned up at the UK Street Rod Nationals a few years back with full hydraulics fitted!! Dave...sorry for mentioning Skoda's

They're Volkswagens (or VW Audi group - VAG) but cheaper incidentally VAG own Audi, Volkswagen, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, and Lambourghini

SEAT and Skoda are part of the VAG ( Volkswagen Audi Garages ) group. Most of the cars share a common platform and drivetrains, e.g. Audi TT and A3 ( old shape ) are the same platform as a Golf/Bora, which is also the same platform as a SEAT Leon. My daily driver is a year old Leon, 210hp, just over 200lb/ft from an 1.8 turbo engine ( same as an Audi TT ). The skodas aer still at the bottom of the group in terms of the drivetrains they get etc but they picked up and are pretty popular for high mileage drivers, especially the TDI ( turbo diesel ) engined cars.
