I love 'em, have never run a 350... Just 283's and 327's. Current stock: '63/250hp, '64/250hp,'64/300hp, '64 counter 365hp, '67 "HT " 350hp and this orig "RE" 365hp with splayed 4 bolt mains,hyper pistons,roller rockers,pinned ,edged,champfered...ect= WHOLE LOTTA FUN: IMG_3748 by bowie posted Aug 1, 2014 at 6:58 PM
My original 300 HP 327 is .060 over, TRW domed forged pistons, balanced, Fuelie 202 heads, Comp Cam EX 262 H cam and valve springs, headers, Holley Street Avenger 670 CFM carburetor. Muncie M21 four speed. Pulls hard in my 63 Impala.
'64 327, .030" over, '56 Vette manifold, WCFB's, Schneider solid lifter cam, Fuelie heads, 2 1/2" Ram horns,.
The first roadster I built in the '60s had a 327 with .060 over 12:1 pistons, a mild hydraulic Sig Erson cam with .440" lift and a TR-1 tunnel ram w/ (2) 600s that worked surprisingly well. It ran low 10's @ 133 mph in the quarter. I later got religion and switched to six cylinders.
I don't care how old a thread is, if it's about 327's I'm hitching my wagon to it. .040 over Chevy 11, forged 11.25 TRW's, balanced, "291" heads, "151" cam. I put this together over 25 years ago, never fired.
'64 300 hp, .60 over, 10:1 flat tops, mildly ported 461s with 2.02/1.6 valves, balanced, solid cam 230/236 110 LSA, offy tripower, gear drive headers. Lots of fun except for hot start issue I need to figure out. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I REALLY like this 55 Chevrolet; just so plain and simple, but packing a wallop under the hood. The "new" 327, that's eventually going to find it's way into my Delivery, is very similar. It's complete and ready to go, and bolted up against it is a 2.64 first gear Borg Warner Super T-10 4-speed, but I've got to separate the two and install the old 2 piece Ansen ****tershield before it does go into the car (truck). With a different cam,, that engine would go through the traps at 7500 RPM in the old FED. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
The reason this engine has never been fired is because my Nova has gone through more than one "change of plans" over the 33 years we have owned it. Most centered around suspension upgrades (non HAMB friendly). You may have noticed the rear sump oil pan in the previous photo, this was necessitated by the front suspension changes. Many of you know that the 64 to 67 Novas used a front sump oil system, this 327/350 h.p. was built with many NOS parts and one part that could not be found was the oem windage tray that is specific to the L79 engine option in 66 Novas. Ultimately the aftermarket reproduced one, but prior to that I modified one starting with a standard tray from a Corvette (IIRC), those Nova versions are highly sought after. Here is a list of new GM factory parts that were collected for this engine. Forged steel crankshaft and rods. 350 h.p. camshaft (151). 1967 dated 2.02 heads (291 casting) including valves, springs, retainers, keepers, pushrods, and "O" stamped rocker arms with the oem pivot balls and locking nuts. 1966/67 Winters foundry aluminum intake manifold with oem chrome oil fill tube and cap. Oil pan, dipstick, oil pump and pickup, and the shorter Nova specific distributor/oil pump drive shaft. Carburetor is a Holley list #3245 dated late 65, recolored/rebuilt at Holleys' custom shop. This is the correct carb with GM part number for the 66 L79 optioned Nova. AC-Delco high output fuel pump. GM Performance Parts aluminum water pump. Air cleaner ***y. is a new GM issue 67 style with open element. NOS Delco-Remy distributor w/cap and rotor with a 64-67 application part number. Harmonic balancer (8 in). New GM 153 tooth flywheel.
Had one in my '65 El Camino, stock, and that thing hauled ***! ( 1973 photo - still had brown hair!)) Putting a '68-- 327 in this "A" coupe with a P.G. ****** and a 10 bolt posi rear. Intake by "Old Rek" here on the HAMB.
I'm a hard core 327 guy. Done a bunch of them. Last one was for my 32. 62 block, 64 double hump heads, stainless valves, solid lifter blower cam, full roller rockers, 6" H beams, forged 383 slugs, main studs etc etc Strange rod/piston combo but it allowed the pistons to sit down in the hole a little to drop comp for the blower because I had to run early heads and they have a small chamber.. it worked lol Love the small journal screamers!!
Wow Mike 1973, I too had a 65 ElCamino, compe***ion orange, 327 factory 4 speed, 12 bolt. Really nice original one. I think I bought the last GM shifter head for the Muncie. Dig this, I was apprenticing in an auto machine shop and pulled the 327 to freshen it up, no indication while running that it was cracked but it was. Asked the boss if he had any bare 327 blocks and he said lets go look, had a real nice clean standard bore block. He talked me into going plus .030, so got the master kit, bored it, complete rebuild, put it in the Elky, nearly done, went to install the clutch pivot ball and cross shaft and it wasn't even close to fitting up to the block, wtf. Mind you, a diehard Chevy guy, I thought I was pretty up on everything, guess what, it was a Nova 327 block, I never even knew such an animal exhisted. Ultimately made an offset adapter for the clutch pivot and everything worked fine. BTW, the block cost me 30 bucks.

Old thread but I want to show off my 64 small journal 327. Bored .030 to a 331, Comp 262H, double hump 1.94's, Offenhauser tri power with Ford 94's. Planning on running Matt's 3 1/2 lake headers. Still haven't thrown spark to it but getting closer and closer! It'll be moving my 30 coupe around!

I had a 327/275 back in the late 70s in a '68 F-body drop top with a glide... Sure wish I had another.....
1964 300 horse in my roadster. Bought the engine 30 yrs ago. Not ready for prime time yet. Runs good, but has too much crank end play. Will need freshened up. Still building the car.
love 327 small journals. Have a fresh one here for the next 40-crane cam, 2.02a balanced etc. and just picked up another 65 300HP good runner--was in a hot rod-guy upgraded to a 383--just needs resealing-leaked a bit-ran strong-no smoke good oil pressure-$200. Have a line on another one too
