My daily driver has a 292 Y-block. Not the most power, but cool looking.

  4. I suppose every motor has its fans. Personally i think Y blocks were and will always be boat anchors. I have owned dozens of them. I have 3 at this time. They leak at the rear main, usually have low oil pressure tons of blow by and non oiling rocker shafts. also they tend to blow the head gaskets between the cylinders. They weigh a ton, have horizontal intake ports and restrictive exhaust. When i was a teen i took out a fresh rebuilt 292 from my 56 vicky htp.and installed a 59 352 interceptor that burned oil. Why because i was tired of:eek: being out run by 6 cyls at the drags. Today i would use a 302 or 351 they are lighter and you dont have do do a bunch of work to correct poblems that are common with Y blocks. OldWolf

That's a bad ass ride!!! I was thinking about doing a Model A Roadster with a spare 312 I have and your pics just gave me a bit more inspiration.
I don't have anything Y-block powered at the moment but I'm building a stout 292 for my '56 Ford.
I've owned several cars in the past with Y-blocks tho.

Y-Blocks have a distinct sound. They can be dressed up real nice too. You should run it.

That is a sweet sound. Anybody got a clip of one at idle? Love a Y's idle too. May not be the biggest or the baddest, but I'll never part with my Y. Can't wait to get it back on the road - gotta wait for the salt to clear - damn its spring and it snowed today...fck!
