This Devin is for sale on the side of the road 608-212-2331. Its about 15 miles east of Madison, WI. This is next to the Devin:
I'd drag them both home if I could! Those ugly-ass wheels on the wagon would go immediately into the scrap pile though.
There are two of those in a scrap yard near me with the guy asking about $3,000 each. Neat car, but not for me.
That's a LaDawri Daytona. I've had a couple of them. They are cool cars but man are they hard to get into if you are a big guy and it's got that hardtop on it. Not much for doors on those things. Look at how small those side windows are and you know what I mean. Killer car for a Keebler Elf. Tough one for anyone else.
I have a LaDawri conquest, it is just like the Datona but with a different grill. On the early cars door openings were optional, mine does not have door openings so having a top is not an option. I aree with Jeff ; Cheetahs are bad.
Cheetahs remind me of the GeeBee Racer airplanes, because of the driver location. Yea, that's a good thing...
That car would be bad ass with a blown injected , direct drive hemi on nitro shoved into it. How much is askin price?
You can buy a Cheetah as a kit car (like a factory 5 Cobra) There was one at the autorama in Detroit. While the body looked spot on, the Corvette running gear was too wide for the car and spoiled the look in my opinion. Cost less donor was about 18 grand.
I think the designer scored a home run with the rear of the body. But the front, not so much. And the funky thick windshield frame is not attractive at all.
same here, used to think they were ugly, I am older and smarter now.........DrJ's GeeBee analogy is spot-on.
The windshield is a 55-59 Chevy/GMC truck unit if I remember correctly, it is just flipped up side down...
I think Almquist also sold that body under their name in the 60's I had a Devin body about 25 years ago and sold it and the guy who bought it has it hanging in his carport. I've been thinking about trying to buy it back but have about all the projects I can handle at the moment.
Devin manufactured several body styles....some were suitable for Corvette frames, some for AH, MG, TR and such. Even made some specifically for VW pans. The Cheetah was (and is again) amazing....on a trip to the 65 Winternationals, we stopped in at Bill Thomas' shop. He was just in the process of getting those things going (as a sidenote, I'd never seen so many FI units on the shelves in one place). As I am from Seattle (originally) I watched Alan Green Chevrolet campaign their Cheetah at most of the local strips. PIA to climb in and out of, makes the Cobra feel downright comfortable. "I gotta two-pack habit and a motel tan" dj
The red car shown with the two guys driving in it is a restored car that was featured in a magazine in the late '50s or early '60s. The guy put the twin-carb Y-Block back in it. (Google sometimes works for me!). A '57 Motor Trend or Motor Life or some such has a pic of a LaDawri on the cover, with the same grille opening that one has. Another site has a '61 LaDawri Daytona for sale that's set up for vintage sportscar car racing: Historic-legal '59 Jag front discs, Ford station wagon rear drums, 9-inch with N-case, top-loader 4speed and an FE engine that's "over 420 inches." Must be a 390 or 406 stroked. The write-up says with the set-back these cars were set up with, the weight bias is 45-percent FRONT, 55% REAR. 55-percent rear weight, with an iron FE block. yikes. -Brad
ultimate irony here, If you follow thelink to the Cheeta website and open the link to the 1964 Hot Rod article, there is an ad for a LaDawri !<!-- / message -->
