Anyone remember the "roadtoads"?

Yep, I belonged, boy that was a long time ago. Made some hot rod friends there that I still have today.

2. I frequented the FE Forum on Network54 for awhile and when Anthony (moderator of that forum) mentioned the HAMB I checked it out. Wasn't too thrilled with the content at first but stuck around and eventually realized that it was mostly good natured ribbing. Mostly. Also, I didn't put together JJ and HAMB until after I'd joined.

I hate to admit it but it wasn't until after I started up here that I decided to do an older style custom with the Galaxie. Hell, I think my plans then were to drop in a 460/six speed and moderize everything about the car. Kinda glad I didn't. Even if I haven't done squat with it anyway. [IMG] Of course, I've always liked old hotrods.

I was bored one night so i searched for "hot rods" or somethin like that in AOL member directory. I started talkin to This guy jeremy (i think his name on here this week is 37clbcoupe or somethin). Anyways, he told me about it.

At the time i hated message boards. then over a couple days i started reading it. Then i got hooked and stayed up alllllll night reading.

The End.

5. I remember seeing the word HAMB flying around on RRT and was searching for some sites with Ed Roth info. So I read a few posts without registering for a while. A lot of the posts were REAL inside sometimes, but I caught on and then I registered. so ME.

6. I got turned on to the RRT in the later 90's by Rodder's Digest.

When the first issue of Hot Rod Deluxe came out... some dude named Ryan wrote a nice little article about Wide White Walls... an being the cocky S.O.B. that I am... I wrote a little ditty on the RRT and basically passed judgement on this poor guy that I didn't even know (what's new eh?).

Anywho, Dr.J... who I think was a double agent back then... was working on something for Aaron Lasky for HRD... so next thing you know... Guys from the HAMB are coming over to the RRT and raising hell... the shit went back and forth for a good while. I think Bill was the only guy who took it really hard. Ryan and Aaron sent me an e-mail... and the three of us had a virtual three-some going on... apologizing and realizing we're into the same shit... and then we left it at that.

So finally, I got the balls up enough to come on over here to the HAMB... only I didn't post under my "Dr.J appointed name" SamIyam... I posted under Joe Doakes... Mike Bishop had written a story about this guy named Joe Dokes... and that "everybody know's Joe Dokes" or something like that... so I thought it was funny that I was posting on the HAMB... and that "everybody know's Joe Doakes" (me)... hahaha...

Then I answered a few questions... lurked as ol' Joe... and then finally logged on as myself.

Sam.

got here a week ago. I origianlly started on the stovebolt forum, asking some hot rod (or hacker as they called it) questions and realized it wasnt really the place [IMG]. no offence to them but I think they lack the creative spirit of autos that I found here, although I will go back for some straight up focused chevy advice. I have been reading up a storm on the hamb pages, already made some connections , oogled a few projects too far away and had a larf. cant wait to get my hands on some real steel.
thanks , this forum rules

Found it off of the Jalopy Journal signed up and then lurked for a few years. I guess there were only about 300 members then. My new job gives me the time and computer access to actually participate a little more...

I found this place via the link from the Kustoms by TSR site. I also still have my Kustoms by TSR t-shirt and decals, one unused, one on my F1 and one on my Impala.

I've been here long enough to have my real name as my handle (same with jerry and Glen). Those were the "punk rock" "wild west" days of the HAMB. There certainly was a lot of slapped ass nonsense going on, but usually very entertaining nonsense, and the newbie hazing was brutal. Through it all, there has always been good comraderie and plenty of good information exchanged. I still consider myself a member of H.A.C.K. (hokey ass car klub).

Because of this place, I have had a lot of fun, learned a whole lot and I've met a bunch of really good folks from all over the world. Pretty bitchin' stuff.

Viva la H.A.M.B.!

Some cult type people came around one day and tried to convert me. I listened to them on and off for a few months....Anyhow, they were all telling me how hot rodding is evil and I should give it up. I had my cars up for sale and all.....

Then they told me that whatever I do, NEVER, NEVER look at a thing on the computer called the HAMB. They said it was the work of pure EVIL.

..... been here a year now.

My good buddy BUZZARD steered me in this direction at the grand opening of 'Aces & Eights'. I clearly remember him telling Joyce that I'd be addicted once I checked it out - he was right. Didn't lurk, and my first post was one of the many 'Show us your ride' posts - the intro police beat me thoroughly about the head and shoulders.

As much as I hate to admit it, Rob Fortier (RF) introduced me to the JJ when I worked over at Primedia (though it was still McMullen & Yee Publishing back when we started). I lurked off & on for a long time before I finally signed up. Made some great new friends through the HAMB (Killer and the like).

Thanks Ryan for giving us all a place to come together on the web.

Found the link on Jalpoy Journal while looking at an article on a car I used to have (Starbirds Electra). Was 1999 and everyone was using their real names,
Spudz was still Cole. There was post by George Barris but it turned out to be phony.
