My pops and I are building a 26 T roadster. It’s not really a bad ass race inspired car but the flathead we are using has race history. It’s a 296 cube 59 L that set an ahra record.
When my pops was a teenager he had a group of older mentors that were in there twenties that had a race team. This motor was in three different race cars a 40 Ford, altered and a front engine dragster. 97524DCB-6266-4313-8B4B-7569F0EB7BFE.jpeg 2565366D-7131-433C-8AB8-1837A3392F7E.jpeg AF460437-52BF-4D88-9C70-D4294D90CBE2.jpeg AA1A9AEE-CEE0-461F-9B22-F237A837CB96.jpeg

I'm building an early sixties drag race/Bonneville inspired 28/29 roadster on 32 rails. I'm running a stroker 427 Ford FE with a Tremec TKO 600 and a 9". Filled and dropped Model A axle, homemade hair pins and batwings plans are for a fully chromed front end. Its only in mock up at the moment.

For me it's the fronts! Luckily, I bought my Halibrands at a fair price - which would be a steal now. I had given up my search for frontrunners for a bit, which was foolish because now they're 2x what was expensive a few years back.

yea post a pic! I just picked up an old 28/29 roadster race car body to do the same. When my 34 truck is done , this one’s next. Plan is heavy set back 303 olds

  10. Steelies are correct for Fords. Halibrand front runners fit Willys better.

Ok. I sold a kidney. Fellow Hamber came through and helped me out. I need to redrill to early Ford but I’ll make a cover plate. Much better match. These are Romeo Palamides in magnesium. I’m stoked. Where does one find magnesium in plate form?

  13. Wouldn't driling a new bolt pattern into the axles and drums be easier and look better then drilling the wheels and making a cover?

Wheels with multiple bolt patterns were as a common as a greasy track burger!
I don't have a problem with them either.

  16. I know. I have been contemplating the axle redrill too. My fronts are 5x5.5 and I was concerned about the large size difference visually. I'm all about aesthetics. I have time to figure it out. These are 5 on 4.75 Maybe it won't matter. Just happy that I was able to make a good trade to get them. I'm still planning on using a rear axle cover plate. I did find magnesium plate on Ebay. It seems it is all in metric sizes.

  17. Will I need tubes for these rims? My new Towel City slicks are radial casings. I would think it wouldn't be necessary.

The old Ford pattern front and Chevy pattern rear gig has been done a lot over the years. I have gotten used to that look personally. Just sayn’ , it probably cuts the value of those Pal’s by about 50%; as a heck of a lot of them have been double drilled.

I would put tubes in them, mainly due to how the fill hole was cast in them: F9746213-4EC2-4CF4-8184-A1238F0637C4.jpeg 022F74BF-4818-4776-8632-A364E7FB7A85.jpeg 2E40D565-BCC0-4A49-8302-5B4AA6539715.jpeg

  21. Ya, I agree. I was looking at that. I am going to redrill my axles instead of the rims. Still going to make cover plates for them as well. Now to find the correct tube to get valve stem in the correct position. Thanks

Curbspeed I agree with what your saying about 5.5 front wheels looking a little wide.I traded for some really nice wheels and tires that has a 15x5.5 front wheels and i think they look a little wide.I might try a skinner tire but for now i will keep the 15 x4s.Nice score on your wheels and you still got another kidney. 27. My front rims are 15x4.5 I was talking about the difference visually in bolt pattern circles. Those last two pictures of rides are fantastic.

    Hi all!
Slowly built this roller up from bits I’ve collected over the years with most parts being sourced from USA & shipped to Oz. Hopefully it’s the start of my dream 60’s style drag roadster!!

I’ve got a 31 model A cowl & 29 Nash roadster back I’m intending on mating together when time permits.

Love the thread!! keep it going ⚡️
