Been laid off since August 1st, spent almost a year out of the past 2 years laid off...bought a house in July, and a "new" car a year ago, so bills are tight (I did a little happy dance when I found $5 in my pocket one week, that's how tight it is around here)...all my equipment and my '40 have been in storage since like May of '08, so nothing getting done around here for car stuff...just sold one of my projects and a snowmobile to fund a trip to see my g/f next month...I'm getting sick of not working, and it's tough as hell out there finding work...hopefully it picks up soon...

I've been layed off since last December (08) :(. Lots of time to work on the 41. Picked up some front fenders. Need to run the hoses for the air. Doing some touch up work and making a console for new shifter. Hope to have it done by the first show in the spring.

Since August 28th '09 here. 1st round of UI ends in a few weeks and haven't had any luck so far. Fixed up an OT Dodge truck I took in payment for a debt. Spent too much on it but the wife and I agreed we needed to have a back up vehicle and we did need a truck. Bought another truck a couple weeks ago I shouldn't have but I'm paying for it selling off some extra parts. It's a '66 Chevy C10. Probably won't do a lot to it right away, build an engine for it out of what I have laying around (which is quite a bit), lower it and clean it up a little then drive it. When it's roadworthy I'll sell the Dodge. If money gets tight the Stude may go on the block as well but it will be a last resort.

Sorry to hear so many are without work but at least I don't feel like the Lone Ranger anymore.

Yepper I have been out of work for 5 months now. No one seems to want an 53 year old worker I guess. But I keep sending out resumes. But meanwhile I sold a snowblower and my goldwing and I bought Ratrodder34's old I think its a 42 ford panel body. It's rough but I seem to have time. I pick it up in a week or two. this will be the last rod I build.

    Been off 22 months.......

The first six months we were considered laid-off til the "official" plant closing, so I got unemployment and sub pay, then just unemployment since then.

Bought and sold some cars and parts, but slowly been selling more and more, just to make up the difference.

Hard to make up difference when its 60,000 less than I was used to...

    Anyway, how about that snow...

  10. Unemployed since May of 08...... I was wanting to try and find a way to go to school, so I guess it worked out. Being unemployed qualified me for the No-Worker Left Behind Program here in Michigan, so I have been going to school fulltime since fall of '08. They pay $10,000 ($5K a yr, for 2 years) for you to go to school to learn something in a "growth field" Luckily, I got in just in the nick of time before shit got REAL bad here in Mi.... Now I dont think there is even any money left for this program for any new people to start. If you are in michigan, please look into it. It is a pretty good gig. . I am almost done with my Associates degree in Manufacturing Engineering, then Transfering to Lawrence Tech for 2 more years to get my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. It only took me 10 years after high school to figure out what I should be doing!!! I would rather be more hands on with stuff, but I am a paraplegic now, so If I cant build cool shit, I guess I will just have to design it.....

Good Luck out there, its rough fellas

It's too bad ,, just look at the shape that George Bush has left us in ..still out of work after 2years ... and they are trying to blame Obama... ok ,, so maybe he isn't doing enough... i know that it's going to take time to get it done .. but i'm getting older .. doing a little horse trading to get parts .. if i was still working,, i (we) would be almost finished with our toys ..

It's a good time to down size and focus on what's really important. You can't take anything with you when you kick the bucket, plus putting your extra dollars in one project instead of three will show more results. I think we all know why the country is in a rut? The american worker used to be the backbone of the country, now "certain" people could care less. Good luck guy's.

Hmm, seems like there are a lot of "projects" coming out of Washington D.C. during all this unemployment.

guess I will chime in for Nevada unemployment, been out of work since March 2009 but now I have 5 days a weeks to work on my 38 dodge p/u. What we are doing is all of the "cheap" things such as metal work and stripping paint.

Been out of work for two weeks on Thursday. Right now I put basically everything I purchased for the car on and I'm running out of things to do.

You see, here's the thing.....some of us might need some sort of escape from the bullshit. There are those of us (myself) that have savings to live off of for a while and are looking for a job that will actually take care of our families. But those jobs are few and far between. So before you go judging those of us who are still building, you need to understand that to some of us, these cars help us keep it together. If it comes down to it, yes the car will go away, but until then I'll keep working on it.

  25. Thats the reply I was looking for! Not judging but hopefully lit a fire under SOMEONE! But I bet there are some Eores here that are not trying too hard to find a job. You do need an escape, I agree, but not at your families expense.:)

Hmm, seems like we have a pissing contest taking place. At least there was nothing like....Yeah, all you non-working slackers, get off your butts. Sell a kidney on eBay!! Pimp your children!!
Jeez, guys, let's lighten up a bit. Only YOU know your circumstances and your financial situation. I have a friend back in Boston who is out of a job. But, he has a VERY healthy bank account and is actually finding relaxation in being away from work. And, no, he is NOT getting any gummint payments.
Now let's all go get some ice cream.
Tman is buying!! He's got a job!! (laughing like hell)
(no offense Tman...just having a bit of fun, okay?)

  29. Since Flatheadguy is the closest to me I will buy him the first beer!

I'm tryin to get my Ranchero finished as it will more than likely be my driver soon. I teach auto shop and got half my classes cut due to California's budget cuts. Just tryin to survive. Got side projects lined up to help, but can't get them done fast enough only being able to work on them for 3-3.5 hours a day other than weekends.
