I was at borders looking at a book.. Hot Rod chronicle???? Or somthing but they had the Burk roadster in there and MAN that thing is crazy... just want to see more about it ...I could only Look at the picture cause they were closing...And Im too broke to buy the book... Thanks EEVELL
That car belongs to Dave Burk. He was a big help on my car. He lives nearby. Do you have any specific ?s Here is a pic...
I shot the photos for that book. When they were compiling it I made it a point that they had to include that car. Before I met Dave I had little interest in hot rods. Even though I still don't consider myself a rod guy, that car is so over the top that it made me learn alot more about stuff that I hadn't thought of before. Burk is a kickass builder and really good guy.
I`ve got that book evel...i bought it in a cheapo booksale store last time i was over in Boston..12 bucks bargain..i`ll scan the 2 pages and email it to you Monkey
Wow. I'd like to know anything about that motor. From the pics I see the obvious: Flathead Latham (spelling?) Supercharger Insane looking amount of overdrive. One off heads... or at least head covers. (still has 3 exhaust ports) Funky motor mounts.
Insane overdrive is normal Latham...very high RPM blower. I've got an old installation story on the thing, and pulley was a major installation hassle on a late model! Everything had to be perfectly aligned, if anything was off by a gnat's eyelash belt would be shucked off immediately.
If I remember correctly, he fabbed all the one-off stuff himself... blower pulley, brake backing plates, and even the heads. I'll look around and see if I can find the info sheet I had him fill out when I photographed the car. I think I have some B&W shots of his coupe somewhere too. That car is a little more conventional than the roadster.
That would be homemade heads! and all of the rest of the goodies.. Cool guy, great machinist and a ton of ideas just waiting to be made!!!
Wow...This is a real old post.. I was in the book store and saw it in a book and was blown away,,, I just wanted to see more pix....I love this car!!!!
I know that car I've seen that in person several times at the car show in my hometown. As cool as it looks in pics it's even better in person.
No I believe it is a Latham, popular to some degree in the 60s on SBC's. Used to see them occasionally at swap meets but haven't seen one in years. This roadster is definetly evil, love it. Reminds me of the T bucket Roger Hunington did for Hot Rod years ago, bolted aluminum channel frame, no radiator or shell up front, just a 389 Poncho with 3x2s staring at you as it came down the street.
O/t here, but one of the family rides in the sixties and early seventies was a Jag XKE 6cylider with a Latham supercharger... Just remember it sounded like a giant pissed off vacuum cleaner!
2003 post?? .... hahaha crazy.. I still love that car.. and to thins day have never seen much on it.. Any one know if its still around?
yes Dave still has it. I ran into him at a couple cruise nights this summer but he was driving his latham powered coupe instead. he said he has been building a quarter panel car.
I had always thought that they were favored for nailheads - when me and my buddy Rick both had 64 Rivieras, that was the most desired mill-topper; possibly because it could remain underhood, allowing Q-ship status.
wow, took ten years to get here??? I think we would still like to see more pics , learn more about the build, and even some in car video would be alright..
Thought I'd throw this up here as I stumbled across this thread. This is Dave's most recent build that he has been driving for a few weeks now, nearly 100% handbuilt from scratch. Not sure if this one is going to get the same custom water cooled head treatment or not. I didn't see it mentioned before, but Dave mills his heads and the mechanical fuel injection in his garage. The guy is an absolute genius.
