I got 2 HO 5.0L motors..... Got a '90 long block resting in a milk crate and a '91 short block on a stand... Both have the factory TRW forged pistons. I got a bunch of HO EFI intake sets laying around including a Cobra intake. A set of iron GT-40 heads with very low miles on them. A 289-302 TR intake and a Air Gap that are still new an' never used....

  14. Just came in from the workshop - just putting a set of Dart Pro-1 195 heads on our 306 road-race motor. Spent most the day reworking the plenum of the intake. Dart makes a really nice head for the price -- the flow tests done on the dyno by one of the car mags showed a 50 HP increase over stock 302 roller heads. I'd believe it. You can spend the bigger bucks and get the CNC ported ones -- probably a good idea for a big 302 stroker or a 351 and bigger setup.

If you buy these heads, they come with PBM valves -- which are fine for flat tappet or Hydraulic roller cams, just don't put too much spring pressure on them. We switched ours over to Manley Severe duty stuff - as we have about 200 lbs on the seat and 550 or so open at .575 lift.

Ordered a set of Scorpion 1.6 7/16 stud roller rockers -- they make a very nice product, at a fair price and a lifetime warranty to the original buyer. They really have great customer service and won't dick you around if you have a rocker failure -- usually they'll either rebuild or replace the whole set.

Went with Isky Red-Zone roller lifters - they're not cheap, but they will rebuild them for about $250 or so. I like Crower roller lifters as well, but they won't rebuild them and you have to consider roller lifters to be 'consumables' after a certain amount of time (like aluminum rods!). Isky has always treated me well and I'm a wholesale distributor for them.

We were going to race the OT Mustang this summer, too much shit got in the way so we have a 'ready to fire' race motor . . . just waiting until next spring. I love running new motors, hurts me to see it sitting . . . want to run it at Mid-Ohio damnit!

I know small block chevy's are popular and almost laying on the side of the road but 302 Fords are getting that way with the fox body mustang era. A 302 with EFI runs well and is easy to wire into a street rod. I have two of them waiting for a place to run. They are my favorite small block.

302 in my 53F100. The one in my 46 is far to nasty to expose you to. When I grow up I hope to have it as neat as HRP's.

Here's a shot of my 302 in HOMADE.... 1969 block, balanced and blueprinted with some port work. 4100 Autolite carb on a Wieand intake and an AOD running behind it.

This year - need to switch over to electronic ignition.

  30. Totally an off topic ride, but a salute to the guts the 302 has. My 95 Ford van is at 298,000 miles with a never opened 302. It is a little weak now, but still hanging tuff. Great motors!! What a bunch of nice rides harboring the trusty 302! Cool ~sololobo~
