Chris is right this project was pure HAMB! I t could not have happened if the HAMB was not here. What Chris did not tell you was this was a surprise for Ryan. Ryan did what he did for Chris without any expectations! That made striking the deal all the more sweeter for me. It felt great playing the small part that I did making someone's dream of owning a merc come true. I know how it was when I got mine. It was fun watching those guys handle the large wasps and the "4000" degree heat...what babies. The best part was standing with Chris as he spoke to a friend of mine for about 20 minutes and then when the guy walked away Chris said" did you understand what he was saying?"
Chris is the kinda guy you really enjoy being friends with! He is no BS and a heart as big as "Jersey". Who else would be a chew toy for his dog!

I felt like knowing the Merc woulddid this After hearing Chris talk about Ryan, and what his friendship meant his dream to own a Merc and his helping Chris

Wasn't that your car? Your name looked familiar.

Anywho, after paying for it it was just too far to justify traveling for a shoebox so I met a nice guy on the forum who really wanted a shoebox but had no money, so I let him take it for free. He got into working on it pretty good but we eventually lost touch, nice kid, hope it worked out well.

Gettin' there! Starting to look more like a desirable car and not this lump of crap chillin' in my backyard! Needless to say as soon as we rolled it out into my backyard for pics, Ryan wanted to do the brakes, wire it and toss the drivetrain in and drive it home haha. He is counting the moments until this becomes his daily driver to say the least.

Thanks! Yeah it's been low budget, but to date we've got about 12 days into it and he's spent around $800 or $900 to get it this far.

Just got our tax return so I'm going to order up some parts and layout whatever $ needed to get this thing on the road (go through the motor, wiring, brake guts, glass etc) and it should really start moving along. I can't wait to get to bodywork and prime it in one color already! I will say though material wise having a second roof on hand is excellent when you aren't moving the back window up, cause there's a biiiig gap left and I have no metal forming tools outside a knee and a pickup bed (you would be surprised how much you can bend on the different contours of a pickup bed.)

    Job very well done....

But I have to say one thing.
The top looks to be to flat over the rear side windows. It starts at the B-Pillar then the top starts to drop. To me this does not work. The arc of the top metal is different than the shape of the drip-rail.
This creates and optical conflict. This is especial evident when you see the car from a dead on side view. The whole top of the roof needs to be lift up a little to get the profile right....
Sorry to say so, but thats just how I see it.... the rest is fantastic!

I kinda have to agree. Im not digging the fastback look.

Side profile looks kinda funky. Then again, im not a fan of chopped mercs.

  27. great story, but I have to agree with Rikster, the roof seems to be a bit 'rampish' in the back.

The car looks great considering where it started...cant wait to see the finished product.

I think you're right. Something was bothering me back there but when compared to the car we were modeling after, I couldn't place what it was with there being different colors involved. I still have the rest of the four door roof, I know some hammerig of the seams has to happen when we finish the welding, if that doesn't work I think we might splice a square section in with more pronounced arc. Want this car to be perfect, not just ok.

WOW Chris once again you Never seize to Amaze! I'm sure Ryan is so stoked! Car looks AMAZING!!! I would just like to point out that Chris really does stand by himself when it comes to being a true friend and craftsman. I've been lucky enough to have him work my 50 back to life and now the 49 he's building me can't come soon enough. Keep up the good work dude!
